Skip Tool Wagon

HI all,

Not posted any of my work for ages and its been a bit quiet over the last few weeks modeling wise too but I have managed to paint a few of the things that have been lurking in the drawers for ages. I had a set of Back2Bay6 whitemetal tool castings and these were carefully cleaned up then darkened with blackner then painted up, the drill needed a flex and plug adding...a piece of wire and some plasticard solved that! Also a couple of tools by the dollshouse supplier Danny Shotton who makes exquisite tools in 1/12th were added. As were a couple of cans cast in resin that had been in the drawer too. The wagon is a flat skip built from some perspex type laser cut parts etc that were produced many moons ago by Jeff Saxton with SVE 7/8ths scale wheels, which had been weathered and some moss and a couple of autumn leaves added. Anyway here is the result!

Not secured the tools on the wagon yet as there may be a change of plan. I need to get a bit more stock sorted for the G scale show too:)

I must sort out a few more bits to post too!

And looking at the photo's I notice had better not try running till I clean the grit from the track too:bigsmile:

That is excellent. Very inspiring too. I have a couple of the LGB small tipper chassis knocking about and now you have given me an idea of what to do with them. :D :thumbup:

Brilliant finish to the wood - is that just paint?

Really like that - once had ny hands on the real things (minus tools) - 20" gauge ex Darlington Chemical & Insulator Co.

I can just imagine delving in that tool box:thumbup: Lovely piece of work.

10 out of 10 such details and talent :thumbup:

Absolutely fantastic. Well done.

Thanks guys.... I'm blushing here with the nice comments.

I assume similar tool sets are available somewhere in 1.24th or 1.20.3 etc for "G scale"? If not they should be!

Alan, yes the finish on the wood is all down to paint. The original flat resin casting has nice grain on it so that does some of the work. The thing is primed with Games Workshop, "Citadel" acrylic black and white aerosols in such a way to give some shading (actually I don't think, as I'm brush painting it here it really helps that much... grey would work just as well.... but with an airbrush the two colour method really helps to create shadows etc). Then the first wash is of a pale sandy grey brown that I was given a tub of from a massive pot that a friend had mixed up on a Dulux colour matcher.... yes its emulsion (it does mix well with citadel acrylics)! Then there are subsequent washes of various shades of first, a warm black to settle into the cracks and grains, then a selection of slightly warmer and cooler tones of the original sandy brown. Some of these are in fact dry brushed on, now I know that dry brushing is an old and outmoded method in some sections of model painters but I still find in the right place it can work well but only if done subtly. When I am satisfied I sometimes add another very thin was of warm black to tone everything together.

Then I with this wagon added some green algae and moss in the cracks etc.

I have a set of photo's of the work on another wagon somewhere. I'll post if I find them! I think I need to take the final pic's though too.

Superb.

It's the tools with the shiny edges and the moss & leaves that really make the realism for me.

Stunning. Total realism.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
