Adding weight (within reason) will give a loco better traction especially on inclines and for pulling longer trains.
I have three sets (each set has 2 weights) of the official lead extra weights for Aristocraft Dash 9 and three sets for SD45
They come with instructions and the required bolts for fixing to the chassis.
The sets weigh just under 2KG each.
They can be used on other Aristocraft locos, USA Trains and also LGB but the fixing method and siting place will be different from the two original designated Aristocraft locos.
The weights were initially issued free in USA (with a charge for shipping) but later they were about $40. Here in UK, they were charged for, £25 per set).
Greg Elmassian (a member on this forum) has a great website and there is a section that shows the installation of the weights into an SD45...

The shipping for one set £4.00 .... for more than one set it will depend on the number and combined weight and maybe cheaper to ship them separately!
