Some info on the 2017 Revolution products

There are some changes / improvements in the Revolution Train Engineer equipment.

I'll be adding these bits of information as I go, but thought I'd share it here until all the web sites and dealer sites get updated.

First the new super receivers have 3 terminals on the output. The label shows that you use the outer 2 terminals. The center terminal is not used at this time, and it is for future expansion. No information on what what will or may be.

Note that there are 3 output terminals on both super receivers. The center terminal is not used, and is for some future expansion, as of yet unannounced.

The current capability on the PWC unit is 15 amps, and 10 amps on the linear unit.

At max current, a fan is recommended.

You will also note that there is no external fuse, it is now internal, and the overcurrent circuitry has been beefed up, so the external fuse is not needed.

The inputs are polarity sensitive as before, and never connect power to the outputs.

The 50791 PWC to Linear converter has also been updated to 3 terminals, but for now you also only use the outer 2 terminals on the input.

Hope this helps.

Is this a replacement for the onboard Sound Battery units or something else please?

No, there are the "normal" 5 amp decoders that plug into the Aristo socket, and then there are the "super receivers" that used to be called the "trackside" units.

For the re-launch, the "super receivers" are now in an enclosure, and there are 2 models available, the PWM one and one with a full linear output.

The filter is for people who have PWM output and need to filter it to DC.

The filter is described here: http://www.elmassian.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=545&Itemid=661

The "root" page for the Revolution system is here: http://www.elmassian.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=313&Itemid=346

The pages are in a state of flux, I am reorganizing and adding since the 2017 re-launch of the Revolution.

Interesting, my early 'sound' base unit has the mysterious third screw. Apparently some had the hookup and some didn't. A meter shows it with a small high frequency voltage on it., but that could be from other sources if the screw is a float. Unhappily, my scope is a vintage tube type bench model and dragging it in from the shop to the house isn't worth it just to see what the waveform might be.

Greg,
Please ADD, rather than replace..
There is a lot of the older kit out there, and less and less information on it available.

Yes, I was mistaken, the first runs of the super receiver did not have sound and were bare boards.

The last run of the PWC super receiver is the same as what is offered now.

I am told that the 3rd (center) terminal is for future expansion.

Philip, the documentation is all available.

the new receivers are the same hardware as the old (sound) receivers
no more "no sound receivers will be made", and they were discontinued before Crest closed it's doors
the new "super receivers" in PWC/PWM are the same as before
the new "linear super receiver" is in the same form factor, just linear DC output only, and 10 amps max.
Oh, there is one small change in the super receivers, there are bosses molded to the case to make the mounting of the fan easier

The USB dongle for downloading firmware to the transmitter and receivers is available, as well as the windows software to run it.

The firmware files for the transmitter (same as last manufacture) will be available shortly.

I did not get anything definitive on the receiver firmware files, but it looks at first to be just the diesel and the steam files, so you will be able to change a steam to a diesel and vice versa.

I know more sound files are planned but no dates yet.

The manuals for the products are on the website now.

Thanks Greg..
Good news the sound files are available again..
I know of a retailer this side of the pond who bought a lot of the onboard battery RC sets.. They were all steam though.

Do you know if sound files will be available for these, and if an updated version is every likely to appear/?

Thanks,
PhilP.
