Hi folks,
I have a Piko 204 still sitting in a box. It will be converted to Airwire and battery. Both my smaller locos are being fitted with Airwire Convrtr and Zimo HO decoders, but I think the 204 draws too much current to go down that route. In a test on 24V up a 4% grade pulling two wagons loaded to the max with stone the engine draws 3A on take-off and 2A running. The Convrtr is rated at 2.3A continuous, so I think that is too close. (If I could use the Convrtr I would have lots of decoder choices.)
That leaves me with the Airwire G3 receiver, which allows connecting any DCC sound module, but has no SUSI interface. I would like to enjoy a reasonably prototypical sound. So far, I have been unsuccessful finding any DCC sound modules at online retailers in the US with the correct sound preloaded. (The reason I'm looking in the US only right now is because my mum is passing through on our visit to us. There seems to be nothing at all in NZ.)
Reindeerpass have the genuine Piko sound kit, but I believe that is SUSI only.
Any ideas on what I could use and where to get it?
Thanks,
Peter.
