Sound For Diesel

Ah depends on how you control it, DCC, conventional Track Power or Battery. So 3 possible answers depending on which question you are asking?

Oops it’s battery
Ok a My Loco Sound (MLS) may work for you but not sure if you will be able to call the Horn, Bell etc plus not sure if the batteries could power it. I have rebuilt one with Fosworks Battery setup and MLS, thread on here in the Battery Forum. But it is a fair bit or work and hacking. There may be some other sound options, sure someone will chip in with a possibility.

What do folk use for diesel sound, for my piko 25T shunters
Our premium industrial diesel soundcard has the recorded GE 25 tonner sounds built in. If you are using the Piko radio control you can trigger two sounds from your handheld transmitter; the horn and engine start/stop are the usual ones selected. The bell can be set to ring automatically at low speeds and brake sounds are also automatic. You can see a video and see installation wiring diagrams at www.mylocosound.com.

Interesting to know that, makes the Piko setup a worthwhile thought.

I have installed a MyLocoSound light diesel card (Early version without the bell) in one of my PIKO 25t locos with the PIKO RC system. I found that after running for a while that pressing one of the sound buttons would cause the loco to abruptly stop! Not good for the gears! It would move again in response to the control, but it seems that the MyLocoSound card pulls more power than the stock battery setup provides when the batteries have discharged after some running. I do not consider this a fault of the sound card and am trying some alternate battery configurations. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Have a look at my conversion, I managed more batteries by using aaa NiMh, filling the hood and a few under the cab floor. The lost weights were compensated for by using roofing lead cut outs under the chassis between the sideframes and wheels. Pulls the House down and runs for 5-6 hours. MLS included in the conversion.
