Spreewald - Front Coupling

I've recently acquired a Spreewald Loco, brought from a friend in Cambridgeshire, which I'm very pleased with.

I've just fitted a new whistle (thanks to a forum member), and I have also fitted an extra hook to the front coupling loop.

However, I'm confused as to how the front bogie now pivots, as the hook fouls on the front 'stone' guard rail. I can take this off if required but can someone owning one of these show me how the hook should be fitted if I kept this rail?

I've attached a photo with the offending guard rail shown in yellow....

From memory:
Is it not designed to be removed, if you want front coupling?

I was wondering if that was the case Phil?

It does clip on and off easily enough....

Another bit mine never came with then, the 'stone' guard rail, I just looked it has not got that bit on it.

I've just checked my older green analogue Spreewald loco.

It has the stone guard fitted, but no front hook....

I think you have mentioned that you have all of your stock hooked on each end. If you remove the hook on the Spree it will look a lot nicer, then drop the loop by 20-30 thou with some plasticard in the gap in the loop where it screws into place. You will need a hole for the fixing screw, this modification will save any unwanted uncoupling when running bunker first pulling a train.

Looking at the diagram I would cut the end off near where the pin is located. You really do not need the T shape piece after the hole for the pin.
