Stainz From Zenner Shop- Experiences?

Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone has purchased from Zenner shop Germany- and was that a good experience.
I'd like to buy a Stainz but they seem to be very pricey in Australia compared to direct from Zenner.

Zenner stuff can be fairly overpriced, look at Modell-land.

I made a purchase from Zenner last year and was very pleased with their service - they were quick, responsive to emails (in English) and the parcel arrived via DHL in a couple of days, as most items from German dealers do. Based on my experience I would recommend them.

Modell-Land are good, of course, and I've made several purchases from them - but their surcharge (5%) for using Paypal annoys me a bit, they are the only German dealer I've yet come across who does this. However their prices are generally very good as Alan says, so maybe this is one way they manage to keep their list prices so low...... They can (in my experience) also be difficult to get email responses from, though once you actually place an order their service is excellent.

Other German dealers that I have personal experiences of and can recommend are Steba.org (Stefan Bauer), Baumann Modellspielwaren, Hunti's Modellshop (Annelie Huntemann) and Der Lokschuppen Dortmund - all of which happily take Paypal with no surcharges.....

Has anybody telephoned the above suppliers?
if so, how well can they cope with luddites like myself, whose German is limited to that gleaned from films and 'Commando' comics in my youth?

No. I quite often email German suppliers (in English) and usually get a reply - sometimes in English, usually in German.

Sorry Phil, all my contact with any German suppliers has been by email; usually I write it in English, then run it through Googly Translate and cut-and-paste the German translation into the email as well as the English version. Seems to work OK so far! ;)
Many of them reply in reasonably fluent English, however, so if you need to phone them I would expect that most places will have at least one person who can talk to you....

My own German is a LITTLE bit above Victor Comics standard ("Hande Hoch, Britischer Schweinhund!" "Achtung, Schnell, Schnell!") but not by much.....

For email.. I normally feed it through Google translate, and include both sets of text..
The only European company (garden rail related) I have dealt with on the telephone is Massoth. They are very good.
Sort-of puts our insular 'talk slowly and loudly, they will understand' to shame.. Is it the 'island mentality', or do we still think we have an Empire??
:oops::rolleyes::speechless::speechless:

I know what you mean Jon..
The temptation to drop into a 'Allo-Allo!' accent has to be resisted!

I wonder if our German friends find it as amusing as the French apparently do? - Allo-Allo, that is.
Do they have the equivalent 'Tommy' stereo-type I wonder?

Anyway..
This is way off-topic, and could be taken as offensive, in this PC don't offend anyone world we live in..

So, thanks for the info..
I *think* someone mentioned that Champex Linden had a Staff member with a good command of English??

Modell-Land are good, of course, and I've made several purchases from them - but their surcharge (5%) for using Paypal .

For the record, it is neither obligatory or compulsory to use PayPal for transactions with the Herr Ritzer at Modell-Land, facilities are available to pay via IBAN transfers, from a standard HSBC current account a fee of £4.00 is incurred, or as a long standing or should that be suffering customer of HSBC, now have a EURO account, with NO FEES for IBAN transfers!

Never had a problem with correspondence via email, or on the phone, the "Ritzer Boys" command of English would put many of my fellow countryman to shame!

The IBAN facility is available by most banks and is used by many a German supplier, just ask!

Do check with your bank though..
Mine charged more than the PayPal fees would have been..

Thank you for the language info as well..

The Halifax charged me £9.50 to transfer 15 Euro to Germany, total bill £21.93!
However the parts I bought were worth it!
