Hi all,

Having fitted (and got working) a Revolution R/C system, I want to do more with it..

1. Is it possible to turn the lights OFF? - They change with direction, but am unable to see how to turn them off.

2. Is it possible to use the Revolution to turn off a MyLocoSound card? - Possible with the 'smoke' control board, to control power to the MyLocoSound??

TIA,
PhilP.

Yes it is possible to turn off the lights but it depends on how they have been wired. Are they wired as a function?
The sound can also be turned off....again it depends how it is wired up.
Have a look at page 17 of the Phoenix PB8 soundboard wiring to a Revolution board. The Mylocosound may have slightly different wiring for its functions but the principle is the same

Lights are wired to the directional outputs of the Revolution, so it appears this is not possible. - A disappointment.

The referenced diagrams mainly show how to trigger sounds from the Revolution, which I am doing.
I need to control the power to the MLS card, if I am to make it possible for the Operator to only need one remote handset. - I will have to use the auxiliary smoke control board to achieve this.

All seven functions on a MyLocoSound soundcard are dedicated to sound functions ie, whistle/horn, bell, brake pump, guard's whistle, "All aboard", etc. There is no "Mute" function to turn off the sound from the Revolution. However, you can use the MyLocoSound remote control to "Mute" the sound.

If you wish to use the Revolution to turn off the sound then I suggest connecting functions 8,9 or 10 at the receiver to a relay in one of the speaker wires.

As you say, the lights are connected to the Revolution receiver directional outputs so, again, I would put a function operated relay in the common return.

Thanks for the input Peter..

I have found there is a sub-menu 'Assign Function..' and there is an option under this to turn the lights off.. Not quite as easy as on a DCC system, but workable.

The reason for wanting to 'mute' the sound from the Revolution handset, is to allow the Operator to only need one handset under normal running conditions.. I can achieve this be using the auxiliary smoke control board to switch the power to the MyLocoSound card. - This particular loco does not have a smoke unit fitted.
David Bodnar has a 'two relay' board schematic on his site. If smoke was fitted, I could have gone that route.

Thanks again,
PhilP.

Well, an epic fail..
If you disconnect the power to the MyLocoSound card, you would (it appears) also need to switch the 'sense' wires which connect to the motor..
Tried running with just the power leads disconnected, and got weird results as the speed is increased. The card started making noises, and behaving erratically. Pity.

Might I suggest you read - not necessarily sign in to unless you want to pat an enquiry - the Aristocraft Forum, MyLargeScale and Large Scale Central. There are very many Revo users and posts over there.
Pay attention to any post by David Bodnar.
You could also mail Navis at Crest Electronics as you probably know he is in charge there.

Have done both..
Navin (and David) pointed me to the AssignFunction menu to control lights..
Navin does not know the MLS card, so could not offer any advice. David suggested a relay in the speaker line, or power control via the smoke board.

The equivalent of the smoke board, is to disconnect the power feeds into the MLS card.. This, as stated, did not unfortunately work.
If the Client really wants this, then I suppose I could drive a relay with the auxiliary smoke board, to cut the speaker connection.
