Summerlands simple general purpose wagons

Hi folks
With a 7/8ths" scale Accucraft quarry Hunslet on order I needed some more rolling stock that was cheap and quick to build. My solution was a simple flat wagon that can be converted to carry large stone slabs from the quarry, logs and can even become bolster wagons. They are not a new Summerlands product - they were just built in house for a hard working railway:)

You can read how I built them here:

And you can see them in action behind Roy Wood's very slow and noisy De Winton over on the Live Steam Forum.

Please note that in the photo they are in ex-works condition and have yet to be weathered.
Cheers

just goes to show that you don't have to spend a fortune..........good little wagon that could easily be adapted for G scale or 16mm as well:bigsmile:

Neat. And very effective.

Thanks guys - and Andy, you are right - I plan to use these with 16mm as well. They are just under 3'6" wide in 7/8ths, which is 3" wider than the Penrhyn wagons, only just over 4'6" in 16mm and about 5' wide in 15mm. The planking is a tad thick for the 16 and 15mm, but it just means getting thinner wood from a model shop, or using ply, or......
Cheers

Or use Coffee Stirrers for the Planks. Free if you have the courage to get a load. Often you find them in receptacles so that you can nick (liberate) a fist full. I have also found that if you ask nicely you can often get a few, places appear to be quite interested in the nutty use that we make of them.
