A new railway. The other halfs Dad has made the jump from indoors oo gauge to 45mm in the garden. It has been put into a very established garden, but it looks quite the part. No points, just a simple circuit for trouble free running. There are now three garden railways in the family, and this one will be provided with track power in due course too.

Beautiful garden and the railway fits in very well.

A great simple line. i love the way the side straights are anything but 'straight'.

Thanks people. I am a little envious of their garden! Though mine is coming along quite well, especially the ferns.

Nicely done....

Well, track power arrived to this little railway in the form of a Gaugemater Prodigy DCC system, ideal for such a small circuit. So the opertunity has been taken to test it with a few Visiting locos from Woodlock Logging and Katzburg Bahn.

Echo all the sentiments earlier, a great example of garden railway and "less is more". Beautiful.
I take it the "grass" in the middle is astroturf of some kind? Hope I'm not insulting the gardener.

no mate, it is astro-turf, just to give it a greener, less harsh look. its a good example of what can be done in a small area, no points etc. its a railway in a garden, rather than a railway that has overtaken the garden. cheers.

I like the effect around the pond...
How do you keep that in check, without filling the pond with the trimmings?
Oh, and what is it, please?

Its called baby's tears I believe, really nice. grows everywhere, but delicate enough for trains to brush aside.

Generally it is not necesaary to Trim Baby's Tears or Mind Your Own Business as it is also called.

To Spread I have a small Nursery area that I allow it to grow in, this is in a Well Shaded part of my Garden. I just take out a Plug of Soil (where I want some) with my Bulb Planter, then a similar Plug from my Plant's Nursery and plonk it in. A little Water and it is soon away. But it needs to get started in a slightly Shady Area, best if the start is like this then it quite often will spread to the Sunnier Parts. You can fiddle the Shade for a period of Time with perhaps a Brick or two.

One of the Garden Railwaymans most useful Plants. Sometimes seen at Garden Centres, though if a neighbour has some just ask for a small handful, it will soon get growing if you keep it in the Shade before planting out. There appear to be two sorts also, one very dark Green as in the above Pictures the other a lot lighter.

What's wrong with brambles, excellent anti personnel plant.
