Hi Folks,

We had a great day with our good friends from the Charnwood Forest Garden Railway when we took our Roundhouse locos to Loughborough Station for this year's Great Central Railway Model Railway Event. Hope you enjoy watching as it was a great weekend.

Nice video, thanks for posting.

I went up on Friday. Very impressed with the whole show and organisation. Apart from the G scale and 16 mm representations at Loughborough at Quorn there were 2 monster marquees taking up most of the car park area housing a host of beautifully detailed layouts, both compact and large, from T to 15 mm and a good range of traders.

At Rothley there was the Gauge 3 layout/display and some examples from the larger scales. Sadly the Charnwood Forest Railway did not seem to be in operation that day.

Didn't go to Leicester North, didn't fancy having my face painted and meeting a host of Disney characters, although the bouncy castle might have been fun :D All this with a fine roster of 1:1 scale live steam locos including a 9F and 2MT. Saw that bashed TPO, ouch !

If the support is there I could see this becoming a summer "Warley" type show.

Gutted I could not fit this in. >:(
Looks to have been a major logistical event, with lots of interest for all comers.

The 12" to the foot 'Bachmann' raised a smile!! ;) :D ;D ;D

Hi Gordon, Many thanks for the great comment. I had a fantastic day with the Charnwood Forest folk and the event was a tremendous success. I do hope the GCR decide to hold the event again next year.

Hi Max, Thanks for the comment and so glad you enjoyed the event. I certainly did. I only went on the Sunday but it was really good. I think the folk at Charnwood Forest Garden Railway work in the week so can only open for weekends and Bank holidays. I do hope the GCR will be able to run the event again next year as I am sure you are right, it could become very big and be the Summer Warley! Great fun!

Really enjoyed that. Some great filming and an emotive sound track! Top notch.

Hi Mick, Thanks for the post and glad you enjoyed the video of our trip to the GCR. We had a fantastic day and it was fun to run our Roundhouse locos in the big tent. Every time a train arrived loads of folks came through the marquee which was situated on the platform. I guess most wouldn't have seen garden railway locos before so it was really interesting answering their questions. Definitely a show to put in the diary for next year.

As a member of the CFR group at Rothley station, it was unfortunate that on the Friday most of our operatprs were working, I am retired and the only one available. Unfortunately I was unable to take my car down to the car park to unload any rolling stock so I spent time doing some track maintenance. I do feel that some of the G scale suppliers missed out on this event as it must go down as the event of the year. What more could a rail / model railway enthusiast want than have the real thing passing all the marquees. The "Bachmann" 9F in green livery is really impressive. Let's hope it was a financial success for all and can be repeated.
Pine Tree's video once again, brilliant.

Hi Tony, It was great to join you all on Sunday and I had a fantastic day. I really do hope the GCR runs the event again next year as it was definitely the best outdoor model railway show I have seen. The location was second to none and everyone was so friendly. Glad you liked the video, it was great fun to make. See you soon.

I hope this will be seen to be a "viable" event. It's quite magic having 1:1 steam hauled trains to take you to each feature. It might be a good idea if Rothley were the centre for all the "garden" scales running on 32 - 64 mm track with the CFR being the feature line. Perhaps the larger "engineering" scales could be better represented and take up Loughbrough and a temporary "sit on and ride" line laid near the engine shed to demonstrate those beauties too. As you say more traders need to pitch up, if only to defray the organisational costs. I heard a few grumbles from exhibitors about it being " a bit hot in here" in the marquees.
Max.
