The other recent arrival.....

Posting the pic today of the my new black IVk, I realised I'd not got round to taking any of the other new arrival from a few weeks back.....
Just to prove that not EVERYTHING good has to come in a RED box - this arrived in a very unprepossessing plain grey cardboard one! ;)

Like the IVk, it came via German eBay, but in this case from a very, very nice man in Switzerland - who was kind enough to not only give free shipping, but also to take the parcel across the border into Germany and post it from there, so no nasty VAT or Parcelfarce Ransom bill to pay!
That is service "above and beyond", in my book!

In case anyone is wondering exactly what it is, it's a DIETZ Selters-Hachenburg Railbus, pre-owned but never run and effectively brand-new. All plastic bodywork, an LGB power bogie at the front (actually the power unit used in the new KoF) and an unpowered (but pickup-equipped) one at the back. Factory DCC and full sound (Dietz's own chips of course).
I know Glendale had (and sold) one of these over here, but I wonder how many others there are besides that one - anyone else have or know of one in the UK?

Jon.

Oh Jon that's fantastic. Absolutely drop dead gorgeous. More pictures of it in action please.

Thanks Peter - it wasn't cheap, BUT it was a heck of a lot less than the list price when they were available - it was an auction, and I was the only bidder so got it at his starting price - which sadly WASN'T 99p, but was still a lot less than the BIN price option..... and he was still nice enough to do me all the favours on the posting of it! ;)

Jon.

I have one of these with a Trailer Car. But sadly it is not the Dietz one, it is a perspex body with Card Overlay glued on badly. Runs well enough with LGB 2095 power units (2) and has had a Massoth Chip installed. I keep thinking that I will one day rejig it with Vinyl overlays. But yours is a super piece of kit. Envy is a terrible sin.

Thanks Jon! I've not heard of the one you have, was it a one-off handbuild or a limited run kit? Any pics of it?

Jon.

very nice Jon

Jon,

You are right about Glendale selling one - they sold it to me..:thumbup:

Think Stockers did a video of it.

Have just found a picture of it - the only time it has run on the EG&SNNR:

What's interesting is that the lettering on both models is different. Jon's one has some additional lettering on the end of the solebar and an "old German" style of lettering seems to have been used on the side of the railcar.

Hi Keith - I wondered who had the one from Glendale, nice that's it's another forumite! Are you pleased with yours?
Re the lettering, that's something the seller mentioned in the auction - according to him, the fancy gothic script on mine is prototypically correct, the "wrong" font being used on Dietz's early production models; I couldn't quite get whether he meant that the one I've got is a unique one with specially made decals, or if it was changed for a later production batch.

My guess is that Dietz probably sell so few of these that they may even be assembled "to order"...?

I might have to pick your brains about fitting the powered loop-style couplings - mine came with these loose in the box, and the "scale" type couplings fitted. Mind you, it's not really important because I can't see it often needing to actually be coupled to anything - or did these frequently tow a parcels van or something?
Just noticed that yours has different buffers too - have you made any additions to it?
I also got an extra pair of side ladders with mine, extended ones with looped tops to fit over into the roofrack - I suspect that once these are fitted it won't go back in the box!!

Jon.

Jon,

I've not made any additions to mine. It's been a long time since I looked at mine (as life of the EG&SNNR stopped when I was caring for Mum) so I'll get out the box over the weekend and see what I can find....

Now that is nice Jon!

Hope to see it running an an event near you?

Or possibly on your own track this year.... ;-)

Like the British Heritage "Bubble Car" single units it has a very charming look with a European spin.

Given a few sunny weekends, some free time from work stuff and some of the promised help from you and the local lads, hopefully yes. ;)
Just need to get all of those to fit together....!
Jon.

That is a very lovely model , I'm begining to think I have a thing about railcars

Jon,
Will try to post a pic when I can, have subscribed to your post. At present my Railcar is in Storage. Galaxy Battery US which I need to move all the kit to my House. My other car is a Smart and the Galaxy was a temporary thing to move stuff to storage and out again. I have bought a new mac, got rid of the old one as it was having problems with my 13000 plus pictures. When I upgraded my library on the new one, all the directories were present but all the pictures were blank! The joys of Computers. I have all the pictures but because of the way that the Mac saves them they are all in Year, Month, Day order which takes an age to extract and sort out. Not a job for when you are trying to build a new Garden Railway!

Would yours be anything like the one at the start of this clip, JonD?

Jon,
No that looks like a scratch built one and is I think different. Mine has recessed doors the same a yours.

As promised Jon some pictures of my Cardboard Overlaid Salters Railcar. It finally emerged from the Ruschfuhrers Loft last week and was used at Saturdays running schedule. But I took the oportunity to phot it on my emerging line too. The last picture shows what an awful job the guy made of it when he glued the Card Sides to the Perspex Box that it is built with. It runs on two of the 2095 Austrian Bo Bo Chassis which have been de-roded.

The Station pictures are of Gehoelz on the Ruschbahn.

Post 24 of my Update Thread shows the Railcar perched on my new line:-
