I have started a project that allow me to see where a train is on my layout on a monitor.
This blog post explains where I am at with it, it is a fun project and I can customise it for my needs.
I plan to add signal settings and point direction to it over time, I do have an idea for CCTV cameras to be triggered as a train passes into some areas that cannot be seen easily.

Oh dear code blub blub blub, hope it all works as expected does sound very interesting. By the looks of things if Ringbaln has the right code on his site copy and paste will save a lot of hassle. He helpfully annotates what each bit does allowing revisions for your needs. Will be watching your progress with great interest.
