Uintah Mallet cuff sensor issue

I've got my hands on a Uintah Mallet but it's got some sound issues. After taking it apart and searching the internet I've found that it is missing a rotating disk from the drive axle:

Below is what I've got:

This is my first LGB loco with a chuff sensor so I am unsure how it works really so any help with that would be greatly received.

My only experience with chuff sensors comes from converting a early Bachmann Big Hauler to battery RC power and that is much easier as it's just making a circuit on the axle twice a revolution.
As the connector has a black (1), brown (2), black (3) wiring, I have tried connecting pins 1 and 2 and I get the chuff sounds so I know the board is ok. The odd thing is connecting pins 2 and 3 appears to do nothing.

Does anyone know more about this and how i might go about making something to fix it?

Hello Jim,
The three wires end up on a small circuit board slipped into the motor-block housing, and there should be a 'black-blob' mounted on it? - It looks like a transistor.

You seem to only be missing the ring magnet, so what you need is someone who is about to replace a complete axle, due to a stripped-gear.
I wonder who that might be?

It won't be for a week, and I will have to double-check my replacement is complete with magnet, but you are welcome to it.. - We can talk you through pulling a wheel off, and getting it back in the right place.

Well that's more than I was expecting for a first reply! Fingers crossed the replacement has the magnet. If not I think I will try a Massoth Hall Sensor kit as the magnet looks very similar,

I've had a bit more of a tinker and the Hall effect sensor works fine when i pass a magnet across it.

Thanks for the help PhilP

Like I said, it won't be for a week... And you may have to remind me...

James, I have sent you a PM. - Personal Message, or 'conversation' as this software calls it.
Look for a red envelope-thingy, top-right of the screen. It should have a number '1' in it.
You answer, just like posting to any other thread on the Forum.
