unidentified smoke unit

I got a 2nd hand playmobil 3958 and was surprised to find a smoke unit in it. It seems pretty simple, but seems glued into the chimney. Any idea what kind it might be or what kinds of fuel I should/could use with it?

Looks like a LGB / Seuth simple smoke unit? - Seuth make many different (physical) sizes, even square ones for dolls-house chimneys!

Looks like one of the leads may be Yellow? - Yellow and Brown signifies an 18V unit.

hmm. This post claims to show a 14 volt version with yellow and brown wires: What happened at your workbench today? - G Scale Central
Apparently they make 16 volt units with yellow and brown as well (if it's not the same one):

Will the unit not smoke until it reaches it's voltage rating? Or is that rating just the max voltage it's supposed to take? The playmobil train uses a max voltage of 16.

Also, is there an alternative fuel one can make from stuff normally available in households?

The colours I quoted were for a LGB unit.. Seuthe don't make it quite so easy!

The rated voltage is what it is supposed to be run at, and give a decent life of the unit against the amount of smoke produced.. - Hence talk of running LGB '5V' units at about 6.5V..

Alternative fuels:
Garden lamp oil - with / without Citronella is a good bet..
Baby Oil - Though this produces a sticky-black gunk, over time, so will cause premature failure..
Vaping fluid - Preferably without Mint, or 'fruit' essence, I guess!

As with all these 'fluids', you are vapourising a mix of hydrocarbons.. Go easy on it, if you are indoors, and have some ventilation.
