US Trains Alco S4 problem with front light

Hi,
I have just bought the above train and I am quite pleased with it. However there appears to be a small fault with the front light.When I first use it the light comes on but then quickly goes off - it would appear to be a loose connection.

Clearly I dont want to send the loco back for such a small fault.

How easy is it to remove the body in order to get access to the light. Is it a socket connection for the light or could it actually be a faulty light. Also the number plate on each side of the loco does not light up - is it meant to?

[align=center]Hi Dave there are lots of screws to take out,

best look at George Schreyers site or Greg Elmaisson, there are a few good tweaks as well,

the number light should be also working, so maybe the plug is loose or some have a plunger connector that makes poor contact under the long hood, the F3 have these for the backup light why on earth I do not know.

I found out how to remove the loco body.

The loco number plates were lighting up, they were just very dim.

The front light is still not working and opening up the loco did no good as there was no socket - each light was surrounded by a tin foil like paper. I pressed the front light and made sure it was firm but to no avail.

Not worth sending the loco back just for this but a bit annoying when the loco was purchased brand new. Otherwise I am quite happy with it.

[align=center]I may have a lamp spare as I am rewiring my F3 to locolinc and the diode set and the backup lamp will be surplus, but if you contact USA trains direct they may send you a complete unit F.O.C , just a darn fiddle fitting it

Thanks for your very helpful posts - very much appreciated.

I am not confident in being able to replace the lighting system at the front of the loco myself so I think I will just have to live with it.

As I said it is a bit annoying for this to happen to a brand new loco! Other than the front light it is a great loco and really hugs my tight bends.
