USA Trains gearbox: how to set motor shaft end screws?

After taking a USA Trains NW-2 block apart, I noticed the two little plastic bushings on the motor shaft ends have a screw. This screw is not in all the way, and I figure it probably prevents the motor armature being tugged. Is there a correct way to set the screw, like tightening until contact and backing off a 1/16 turn?

Hopefully, the reassembly went well for you, but you might want to take a look at Greg Elmassian's page on this. Diesel Motor Block Tips He doesn't mention the end screws, unfortunately.

I hope you did not loose the thrust bearings? The setting should be right with no need to play with the screws. But if you have gentle screw in till you feel pressure then back off as you suggested both ends. Possibly a bit more than 1/16.
