W&L "Resita" as live steam model

KandNWLR

Live steam on the indoor K&NWLR
For those who saw the paragraph on Welshpool and Llanfair´s "Resita" (currently "resting") in SMT which announced Ralph Reppingen´s live steam model of the same, here are a few more details from the website.

Ralph writes that an "Announcement" will be made concerning the loco at the end of March, presumably with some pics and more details of delivery date, which is currently set at 2014. Scale is 1:20, min radius is 50cm, gauge is 45mm, and the price of the kit is ca €2300, available in three phases each priced at a third of the total. It should also be available RTR, but no price is shown.

Interesting! Bit pricey though.

Very, very, interesting. So now I need Joan, Hunslet #14, Resita + coaches from Hungary and Sierra Leone. Not to mention Dougal (?), which has been done as a nice scratchbuild shown on here. Modelling the W&L has just got a tad expensive this year.

Thing is, will the scale Resita have axles that shear just like the real one ;D >:( ;)
Max.

I'll stick to my long-term plan of modelling 'Ferret' in 7/8th's..
That is if I can ever find a W&L liveried 'round-tuit'!
??? :( ;) :D :D

Don´t think that anyone has let Ralph into this little "secret" concerning why Resita is currently "resting". His website claims that his prototype is also called Resita and is currently on the Austria Steyrtal museum railway.

For a hand built model made in Germany that is a good price when you consider the Accucraft Chinese made Saxon loco is much more.

On your behalf, I´ve been in touch Ralph Reppingen, who has kindly provided the following additional information:

- Outside frame, 32mm / 45mm adjustable gauge
- €2300 kit price, but also available RTR
- Weight 4.5kg
- Gas fired
- Boiler capacity 350ml
- Will negotiate LGB R1 radius curves / 50cm
- Sprung wheels
- Will pull 60-80 axles
- 45min run time without refuelling gas tank
- Current production schedule of this run from May 2014 onwards (if order received in the next weeks)

Not bad! Reckon it needs the "Mel" touch though, it's a bit clean!

It is a German loco after all .....

Not when it's on the W&L it isn't! ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D :D :D :D ;D

Don´t tell Ralph :D

I like it, it's a handsome loco and one to put on the list of things I want but not so as much as a.......... list!

We have to dream :) :D ;D

Just to let those interested know, a 6 page review of "Resita" has just been published in the German equivalent of the UK Garden Rail. They tested two locomotives for over 10 hours each (thorough, these Germans) and wrote up everything they found, including a list of add-ons that they did. Conclusion: A fantastic engine and one of the strongest in the shed. If anyone´s interested, I´ll translate the highlights and post them here.

Please translate. I would like to see what they had to say.

Shame, it seems the real W&L are to cut up the Resita we (The Staffordshire Railway Group) gave them. Some of it will be kept as spares for the running one, but ours was in much better condition than that one to start with. One sometimes wonders where these ideas come from. Presumably the rest will gather some cash from the scrap-man.

Shame to hear it, but I hope they get at least one to run well.

For those who do not know this is the second run of Resitas by Ralph Reppingen. One of the first series has been in use on our club line for some years, and it is a very powerful and controllable loco. There have been no troubles over the years it has been in use. The steel tyres tend to slip much less than stainless tyred engines of similar type.

What I don't like, is the that Reppingen continues to copy Regner in many ways, especially by making the engine look toy like, rather than a scale model by for example putting the steam oiler in the side tank with naturally the hole in the tank side and top and the big knobs to adjust. (Memories of early Merlin engines are brought back) What a pity.

Looking on his site I can't see how one would order one if one had the sponds. It being in German doesn't help. It seems to list the three stages with prices but no button to click for a result.? ? ?

My advice would be to send him an email so that he can get in touch. If that doesn´t work, PM me and I´ll try a little German ... ;D
