What is it?

A friend has e-mailed me some pictures of a loco asking me what it is and is it worth anything. It`s not live steam so I don`t have a clue. It looks like a Swiss electric loco but that`s as far as I can get. Does anyone have the answers?

It looks scratch huilt to me - either that or a small run made by an individual.

The chassis looks well engineered, but not factory made.

That's my guess, for what it's worth :-X :-X :-X

hmm.... there's a youtube of one of these, but I can't view it from work!

... if it's the same one then it's an ETS O-gauge model

http://www.ets-trains.com/en/locomotives/electric-locomotives/electric-locomotive-steeple-cab-csd-series-e-225-0.html

On the other hand, I thought the ETS stuff was 3-rail but the OP's photos seem to show a 2-rail mechanism?

According to the caption accompanying the video the product is by ETS who I think are a Czech company making tinplate replica models. I think most, or all, of their production is O Gauge.

Very nice!

Many thanks Paul (and everyone else who replied). Good to see you on Saturday at the Exeter show. I hope you had a good time. As usual it was a splendid show (despite the leaking roof!).
I'll pass on the info to my friend. It may actually be his daughter who came across it.

Very nice indeed! There's another video here of an outline steam loco:

There's something very pleasing about tinplate and browsing through the internet there's a lot of nice stuff still being made, pricey though, but nice to own.
