Wood block buildings anyone?

Hi Folks, has anyone tried making garden railway buildings from a single solid block of wood??
I have certainly made buffer blocks that way and they lasted quite a while with a good dose of gunky paint. Failed in the end as damp got in where I used a screw to hold in place on the line, after all they did need to stop a train!

I have seen pix of buildings made from solid 4x4 or 6x6 lumber, either painted or clad with plastic siding.
Good way of using up offcuts, and they should last a while.

No, but no reason not to, so long as you are aware that they will have a finite lifespan. Using pressure treated timber will extend this to some degree.

We haven't done many scratch built buildings, but we did use the Jigstones system to mould blocks and panels in cement,

I don't know if it's currently being marketed and I don't have any pictures of our buildings, but the cast blocks look like this:

Moulds are like this, doors and windows would need to be cast in plastic,

Edit - It turns out they are available again and it looks like they have added some roof moulds to the catalogue. I'll need to have another look at what I have in the drawer.
