Wrekin problems

1/6 Scale Tanks, Garden Railways
Hi I have a problem with me Wrekin and wandered if anyone else can shed any light on it. Some of the cranks on the end of the axles are loose and have a lot of play in them. Is this correct? Can anyone please check their Wrekin and let me know?
Thanks,
Mark

This is quite a common issue, you need a 0.9mm (smaaallll!) allen key to tighten them - there is a tiny grub screw in the sides. If you keep running it with them slack, eventually one will fall off.

I haven't one to check, but experience would suggest not; but then how loose is loose? Next question, what holds them in place? Are they pegged with taper pins,or just pressed on to the ends of the axles?

Edit: - Cheers Neil. You posted while I was typing.

I've had exactly the same problem.
Another problem was getting hold of a 0.9mm Allen key!!
When I did get one (in a set) it was very flimsy and rounded off.
I eventually filed a larger size down to fit, by trial & error.
The crank still occasionally works loose.

Try TrackShack.

Yes we stock the small Allen keys for the cranks, Accucraft state they are 0.8mm.

Have to stick them to a bit of cardboard for posting otherwise customers think they have received an empty envelope!!

When looking at sets of Allen keys normally available in the shops they start at a minimum of 1.5mm.

Happy steamings,

Whoops, I thought they were 0.9, sorry. They are so small it's hard to see that they are a hexagon, from these eyes anyway!

I find the ones supplied with Regner engines fit,I think they're 0.9mm.

I have seen 0.7 and 0.9mm for sale on the web, thought of getting some for the shop but decided to have a word with Accucraft UK to check what was actually required. I think the figure of 0.8mm came from them measuring a key, but I'm not sure of the 'technicality' of the measuring device used. Anyway the Allen keys we are calling 0.8mm come from the Accucraft factory and do fit the fly cranks. I would presume this is where Mike at Chuffed2Bits also got his from.

Happy steamings,

John
