Wuhu 4MT gas jet

I have a Wuhu 4MT, and have never been able to get the gas jet to work well. Recently got a new jet from Wuhu in case the original was the problem, but no change. The gas setting is either flame thrower or not enough flame to boil the water. Seems like there are a lot of these models in the UK, so hoping someone might have some advice on a fix.

Hi Adam
I don't know about the 4MT but experience with making poker type burners it may be the gas needs to slow down at the point of combustion, this can be achieved by
adding a stainless steel wire mesh wrapped around the burner or if there is room pushed inside the burner. One or two thoughts is the burner offset in the fire tube if so it needs to be set to allow the maximum distance between the burner and the fire tube wall to allow the flame to burn properly also make sure that there is no pipes close to the burner ports as this will also disrupt the flame, steam pipes should be slightly to one side of the burner. Have you taken the burner out and checked for debris inside it, are all the burner holes clear?
Hope some of the above is of some help.

Hi Shaun,

Thank you for the tips. Do you have any pictures you could post that shows what you mean about the wire mesh?

Thank you!

Hi Adam
Did a quick look on google found these

You can easily see the model ones amongst the full size ones.

Hi Adam - I've been experiencing the same problem with my Wuhu Black five - the one before the latest ceramic burner. I've tried making an adjustable collar to vary the air/fuel ratio, but this made little difference.

I now think the problem is more to do with the balance between the two pressure drop points - namely the gas regulator valve and the gas jet itself. Unfortunately Wuhu don't appear to put any size identification on their jets so I'm currently looking for a way to measure the jet size. (I wonder if anybody here knows how to do that?)

It certainly looks bigger than those in my Roundhouse FG burners which would account for too much gas pressure drop being taken across the regulator.

I have heard of others solving the problem by replacing the whole Wuhu burner/gas tank with the super reliable Roundhouse FG set up - but I'm keeping my fingers crossed I won't have to go down that path .... :(
