7/8ths and 1/12th modeling in Railways and Birdwat
Hi all,
A little while ago I asked about the Accucraft Lawley power chassis and got some very helpful advice. Anyway I thought I'd post the reason behind those inquiries! I have had a Simply 7/8ths Baldrig body in 7/8ths scale on the shelf for about a year awaiting inspiration. Originally I had intended to just use the kit as is on an Edrig/Ragleth power chassis, but as there are a few about now I thought I'd like something a tad different. Enter the 0-6-0 chassis. This I felt would give a different look to the locomotive and produce something with a nice chunky feel. I drew a few designs freehand and decided on a simple conversion with a rear bunker.
Anyway I have never tackled a metal kit like this before... my soldering has been limited to little bits of metal and wiring! So I took advice and my time and to be honest its been fairly easy. I made up a new tool box for the top of the side tank where the original bunker had been and also cut and added the rear bunker. Instead of the kits flat beading for around the top of the tanks I added some half round brass and this helps with the chunky feel.
I am awaiting detailing parts from Talisman brass, such as the tank top fillers and handle and padlock etc for the toolbox.
The body on the loco looks nice and big.... here it is with the other project that is on the go, an IP Engineering brake van somewhat modified.....
