A tale of 2 FORNEYS

Just dont name any of them Kate!!!!!!

If you do a search on LGB Forney, there is an item by a Prof at one of the stateside Uni's on how to fit a decoder, how to stop the rear truck derailing etc.

I cured the brush burring problem on the rear truck by fitting small plastic washers over the carbon brush to avoid contact between the brush housing and the wheels.

I have had a few Forneys over the years and I have never experienced any of the problems quoted with the bushes and derailing rear trucks!

Decoder fitting is difficult, in that the loco requires a lot of dismantling to access the digital socket, and reassembly has to be done in reverse sequence which is fairly complcated,, but once you have done one, the rest become easier, you just have to allow plenty of time to do the job, ...........,,..... as I carry out most of my decoder fitting in the kitchen, its a case of judging the time the 'better half' will be out of the house for:bigsmile:

well i can say first hand the brush issues do exist
-on the first version chinese DRG loco-

and i presume the others in that first chinese batch-there was some talk of this issue on MLS site when they were first released-

and its not something one would ever notice -

until either you notice there's little wear on the inside of the wheel-or you pull the wheels and the brush doesn't poke out

as for the derail of the rear truck-this only happens on wonky track -typically sharp curves that are not level side to side-the truck itself has little vertical play and the wheels will be lifted or climb if track is torqued
