I have just taken possession of an Accucraft C&S 2-8-0 No 60. It was as new, boxed etc but but there was no manual with it.

I have looked on the Accucraft site and the manual for this loco is not listed.

I would like to find out about the wiring.

It has a four pin plug that attaches to the tender.

In the tender there is a pcb as shown in the photo

There are plunger pick-ups on the tender wheels for power from both rails.

If I was to DCC it how does the pcb figure in this (there is no rear light)

The board appears to offer a switched supply for an auxiliary sound card, and a means of switching off power to the motor(s).
So it could stand 'idle' with the lights on if you wish.

If fitting DCC, I would remove / ignore the original board.. Pickups straight to the decoder, out to motor(s) and lights.

Cheers Phil
That was my thinking. There is in fact a six pin connector (not the 4 pin that I wrongly posted)
So I suppose that two will be for power to the motor. Two will be for power from the loco pickups to the tender and two will be for the 1.5v power from the tender to the lights on the loco.

The two switches on the pcb are one for M (motor) and one for SL (which should be the lights and the sound).

As long as the loco pickups are only routed to the tender then everything should be hunky dory.... I just hope that Accucraft have not done a 'special' with the wiring in the loco connecting the track feed to the motor with its own pcb!

Very nice Mike :D

Hi Richie.
Here is a photo of the whole loco and tender (unfortunately it is not live steam!)

Nice looking loco, :D

OMG yes it IS nice looking
I have always wanted a smaller drivered Consolidation just as you now have.....

run it in good health

and
if you would when you have a moment, take a photo with standard LGB stock in tow, ie box cars or passenger cars , so I might get an idea of comparative sizes.
and tell us how it runs, tracks, if its finicky, etc.

Uncontrollable drooling!

Nearly all of the C&S narrow gauge locos had the Ridgeway spark arrestor (bear-trap it was nicknamed).

It adds a certain 'presence' to the loco as well as successfully diverting the sparks and smuts to the trackside.
The top can be hinged back to the side if needed for cleaning etc.

The two tanks on top of the loco boiler are the air tanks. C&S (Colorado & Southern) adopted this practice for their 2-8-0 consolidation locos and even on one or two 2-6-0 moguls.

This 2-8-0 would have had about the same tractive force as D&RGW's C16s

Hi Steve, nice to hear from you again.
I will post how she works once she is DCC-ed.

My Accucraft, Kiss and Aster locos are used on my 'mainline' as it has the sweeping curves etc.
I had rebuilt the tunnel on the mainline a few years back but then found out that I had not allowed enough side room for the 'monsters' as the track curves into the tunnel. :(
I had to widen the tunnel.

I would have liked them to work on my meandering 'local' line but the curves and close rock scenery definitely preclude their operation on it!

The really heavy incline on my layout (1:10) is always the problem with rodded locos, especially ones with heavy tenders as they do not have enough power/traction to pull very much else.
I have not built any 1:20.3 'helper' motorised rolling stock yet.
But I will do what you request and throw some of my 1:22.5 scale motorised 'helper' cattle cars into the mix and report back how she runs etc

I just love watching them run light with the sound going, so that is okay by me! :D :)
