Accucraft Leader is the new Ragleth?

Some interesting news from Accucraft UK. Ragleth will of necessity be upped in price not only from the new batch arriving in June, but also for the last handful of ones in stock that have already been bought in at the higher price. Some dealers still have some stock at the old lower prices - while stock lasts.

Meanwhile Accucraft have put the existing stocks of Leader on a sale, you can now find it at street prices as low as £530 manual and £805 R/C . So, with these substantial discounts Leader is the new entry level loco on price - while stocks last.

Additionally the IOM pairs coaches have been further discounted and can be found at street prices of £118

Happy steamings,

John

I thought Ragleth would be popular.Edig was a very popular engine apart from not having a cab so Accucraft obviously put a cab on it and called it Ragleth..clever move..

I think Ragleth is popular- probably why they can justify bumping the price up a bit (not complaining, it's the way of the world).

I suspect Leader is the less popular one- shame, as it's a very nice engine. I was tempted when I bought my Lawley chassis but was put off by the difficulty of fitting r/c (and I'm too tight to pay for the fitted version!).

Blimey when the stocks of bargain priced Leaders sell out, Roundouse Basic range will be cheaper than Accucrafts.

You are right Ross, although Accucraft would say Ragleth is a higher spec loco than the Roundhouse 'basic' range with slip eccentrics, and you should actually be comparing it with a Roundhouse Billy or Katie when making buying decisions.

As you say once the Leaders are sold out along with the last of the lower priced Ragleths, it looks like £640 will be the entry level price for locos with traditional reversing gear. This compares with £750 for the new 7/8ths Quarry Hunslet and £700 for the new G1 B4 tank - although the latter two are of course prototypical locos.

Happy steamings,

John

well ive only gone and ordered one!

been looking on google without much luck- anyone know any good sites/ books on the railway these came from? looking at building some stock.

also where was the coal caried on engines like this?

great thanks, seems to have lots more rivets than the model. ( may have to get that rivet press!)

Will be my first accucraft loco too.

They're great engines.....

wow! so glad I went for one, are milton loco works still in business? may see if I can get buffer beams from the.

Only thing is I use centre buffers does anyone know how far apart the bolts that hold on the choppers are/ have a spare accucraft centre buffer I could swap for the choppers?

John,

No offers on Lawley then? suprised that the current batch has taken so long to sell through, I did enquire about a blue or black one but it seems when Lawley sells out there may not be another batch?

Two Allan? That's just not on!

Milton's website is still "live" but I'm not sure what- if anything- he is still doing. The bufferbeams are marked as "out of stock" but it might be worth giving him a shout. If not someone else may well be up for making you a set- Matt Acton or Tony Willmore would be the first places I'd try (in no particular order I hasten to add!).

Good question on the buffers- I always thought the standard (non chopper) Accucraft ones look a bit on the small side anyway. I've just fitted centre buffers with a single bolt mounting to those I've done and just drilled a new hole smack in the middle of the existing two- get ones with a big enough shank and they'll cover the holes.

what buffers did you use? agree the accucraft ones are on the small size, but some of the brandbright ones are to big!

sorry to sound daft but never heard of Matt Acton or Tony Willmore.

guessing the coal was held in the cab?

Matt Acton- Sir Hadyn on here.

Tony is Rhos Helyg Locomotive Works, think he's Tony W on here but not sure.

I used Brandbright buffers, but I can't remember which ones- that nice Mr Gorton dug them out of his spares box for us. I wish I could remember 'cos I need a pair for the Lawley!

I suspect coal was probably kept in a corner of the cab- that said, I'm not sure what would live in the short side tanks.
