Accucraft Ragleth conversion - some "Swift" action!

Right - the decals have gone!! The tool used was the standard Summerlands thumbnail - and I wish all modelling mistakes were as easy to rectify:)
Thanks to steve and James (and David off list) who were all absolutely right
I think I shall wait a while before adding any more decals - there are the steps to put on, and the buffer beams to sort - oh yes and the R/C to fit............
Cheers

Hi Chris,

I think the loco looked VERY 'classy' in just the black. I think it looks best when just left plain.

Rob.

Personally I think it looks rather smart as is particularly in your first photo, which shows off the VoRish shape of the loco best. To my eye it looks too squashed when both nameplate and logo are towards the back. Yes, perhaps it's a couple of mm bigger than it might be, but the same could be said of the cylinders and valve gear! The VoR locos themselves have sported some quite large logos over the years! So my vote would be to keep swift proudly carrying it's Lion and Wheel BR Logo as it is! Lovely looking loco too, however it's finally badged.
James - my apologies for somehow missing your post yesterday - and thank you for your support for the proud lion! I think that Rob has it right though - best in plain black for the moment. At least I have the photos :)
Cheers

I like the Paintshop Pro/Photoshop option. It provides a great way to check out positioning for such things before making the commitment. Take your initial photo and then try all the different options and decide which is best. Top idea Steve!

I have cycling lion BR crests in my Rub Down Transfers, 16mm long £4 pair.

Thanks for that David - in fact I went to your website first and couldn't find any listed under 16mm - and still can't! In fact I have a pair of 17mm long, but they look too small - maybe I was influenced by the current huge ones on Lyd......
Cheers

Chris brought his Swift to run on my railway yesterday. It does look fine on 45mm :)
After discussing his options here are four possibilities, using a smaller "cycling lion" that came on the same sheet as the big one. I'm not sure if Chris will use the most popular version but what's your choice?

No 2 rather reminds me of the layout on the A4, nameplate on smokebox and lion more central.

To be awkward, I think I'd prefer the lion positioned as in 4, and nameplate as in 3.

Of those shown I like Swift 4 as it seems most 'balanced' but I also like the sound of Robs' suggestion.

Like this then?
Swift 5

I don't think Chris likes the nameplate close to the cab so "Swift 3" is probably not a contender which will also knock out "Swift 5". Like all good consultants we can offer our client advice, but whether or not he takes it is a different matter. (And the trick to being a consultant is to get the client to think your idea is his own :) )

Well, that latest mock-up has made up my mind. It's Swift 4 for me [but I'm not the client :o:]

Nice work Steve.

Hi,
I still think it looks more, 'classy' in my eye as it was in just the plain black, as originally finished. Sometimes less is more.

Rob

Swift 1 is the best to my eye, alot of the smaller tank engines had the logo near to the cab & not in the middle .

Well, well well - this is interesting - thanks Steve!
I feel reasonably comfortable with Swift 1 and like the fact that the top of the nameplate lines up with the top of the logo. On Swift 2, the nameplate seems too high and needs (to my eye) to be half way up - and that makes me wonder up the logo should be slightly higher too to line up..........
Having said all that, I am still not tempted for the time being, so it's lucky my consultant is working for free:D
Cheers

Just to clarify things, this body kit can be used with just the Ragleth power unit ? If you can get away with just buying that as it is cheaper than the full Ragleth, it may tempt more buyers.

2a for me....and I also think the VoR arrangement is better than the IoW!&:

I was just thinking it didn't look right without a BR number on it as well! :)
No.4 if the nameplates don't move for me... but might benefit from a small 'gill sans' cream number on it, or a cast GWR style plate like the W&L locos.
