"Another one rides the bus...."

I took these pics a few weeks ago, but forgot to download them from the camera and post them till now!
I had spent an enjoyable evening with a box of assorted figures and a tube of silicone glue, adding a nice full load of passengers to the Dietz Railbus. The figures are a wide mix of Preiser/Pola, TL45, Bachmann (the UK Scenecraft ones) and a few others, including an LGB railbus driver and conductress. When it arrived, the bus had three figures on board including a driver, but those three were from a Preiser 1/25 truck driver and passenger set - I don't know whether they were put in by Dietz or by the previous owner of the model, but a guy in a trucker waistcoat and cap just didn't look right for a German railbus driver! So, he was gently removed and replaced by the much smarter and more officious-looking LGB chap in smart uniform and peaked cap.
The three figures in the front area immediately behind the driver (an elderly and a young woman, plus a baseball-hatted "yoof") had their legs sawn off, as that area of the floor is raised to accommodate the motor block, but all the other passengers were able to retain their dignity and all their limbs. ;)
The more I played around with positioning the various figures before I started glueing any in, the more fun I was having devising little "scenarios" for each group of passengers - thus we have the business chap frantically searching for his ticket while the conductress waits (im)patiently; two "working blokes" minding their own business and not making eye contact; a young couple cuddling while the chap opposite them looks out of the window in mild embarrassment; the blond-haired guy trying to chat up the two girls on the other side of the bus, who really don't want anything to do with him; two other young women talking earnestly about the small child that one is holding up to look out of the window, and so on.... anyway, you get the idea - and suddenly it was a railbus full of people going somewhere and doing things, not just a bunch of plastic figures stuck in at random!
As some folks mentioned in the recent thread about why we do this hobby - creating our own little world is a big part of it.....

Anyway, here are the pics (in no particular order), before the roof was bolted back on!

Oh, DEFINITELY the bus - as it's a Dietz one rather than an LGB..... ;)

Most of the figures were from various eBay lots I've picked up over the years till I had a decent box of them to choose from, still got plenty more to populate coaches when I get round to it!
The Bachmann ones are a good bit cheaper than the Preiser ones anyway.....

Judging by the angle of the head of the blond-haired male passenger in the second photo, the conductress has a nice pair of legs!

But you now have a travelling vignette and that will keep the viewers busy and enjoying themselves, especially the younger ones.

It's the mini-scenes within the big scene of the layout as a whole which really bring it to life for the watchers and give a great deal of satifsfaction, both in setting them up and seeing/hearing people's reactions to the owner. You've had a good evening's work there.

Nicely worked out little vignette you have there Jon. I try to get all my little people into nice sociable groups. Well it's only fair, one has a responsibility to ones little friends.........ones..only..little..friends;)
I'm sure there is a "Twilight Zone" story in there somewhere.

Heheheh, yes - I'd posed him as trying to chat up the blonde and the redhead across the aisle from him, but you're right - he could be sneaking a look at the Clippie's pins..... ;)

I have quite a lot of other figures tucked away that will eventually form little groups and vignettes on platforms and such - and others I'd like to put into coaches but frankly they would be wasted due to lack of visibility; I think I'll have to get (or build) an open tourist car like the RhB or Harz ones to show the figures off to their best.
Then, of course, there are the "naughty" figures that we've discussed on here before - to be carefully concealed in places to "reward" the particularly observant viewer..... :rolf:

Jon.

Regarding the aforementioned naughty figures, are there any made that are, as one might put it, acceptably naughty, without being quite so blatantly pornographic?
Not being a prude, but the ones previously shown might give rise to difficult questions from youngsters!

(Do you have any pornography? Yes, but I don't have a pornograph to play it on! Yes, yes, I know ... Coat, hat, door!)

Well, Alec, the Phoenix Phollies figures discussed here before do (mostly) fall into the "mildly tittilating" category, kind of "Page 3 meets Carry On films" - it depends whether you consider a little cheeky T&A to be a step too far or not. However, the original castings of the Phollies figures are now very collectable, and the new recasts of them available from French and Spanish suppliers are just as (or more) expensive as the originals. The rather crude (in both senses) German-made "couples" that someone posted a few weeks back are probably way too rude for anywhere that kids are likely to find them, as is one particular pair I have that were sculpted by John Sanderson of "Tradition".
Similarly, the other sculpts by Tim Richards (who did the Phoenix stuff), under the Mascot and Starlight banners, are very naughty indeed and thus best restricted to a Gentleman's "private collection".....
Regarding "acceptable if slightly risque" figures, even some of the standard Prieser ones are heading that way, with gratuitously large amounts of cleavage, micro-skirts etc - and they also have their "Adam" and "Eve" sets of generic unclothed figure kits which you can assemble in various poses and then "dress" in as much or as little as you wish. ;)
Probably best not to post any pics on this subject, because as someone pointed out last time it came up (fnarr....) there may well be youngsters reading this, though as forum access is supposed to be limited to over-13s I'm quite sure 99.99% of them have accessed far worse online by that age. 8|

I think the little old lady with the hat like a Chelsea bun also appears on my line 'The Northern' (based on the Northern section of the Isle of Man Railway), where she is known as Mrs Crellin. She isn't legless when she travels on my line (he says, smugly).
:D

:D

She must be going TO town on your line, then back on the railbus after six gin and tonics at the drop-in centre..... :rolf:
The three figures at the front of the bus that received surgery courtesy of an X-acto razor saw are all from the TL45 bag of figures - also available from various Chinese suppliers - and being considerably cheaper and more basic than the Prieser ones I didn't have the same qualms about subjecting them to the necessary drastic amputations! ;)
