im really fond of these small locos, and own more than a few by LGB
and, from experience and conversations with the old LGBOA repair guys, the rule is to never overload these locos, as the single worm drive gear will wear out, so i treat them ore than a bit gingerly when running these locos, especially the massively over-weighted diesel versions, which allow for little slip due to weight

In reading the new 2013 catalog, they make note of a re-worked drive train with both axels powered.

Now, if you were to ask me, i would think, technically speaking, the old version had both axels powered, even if only one by worm and the other by the drive belt

if anyone has or KNOWS the new arrangment of power, id really like to know, as i would pay for a more robust version of these locos.

All existing feldbahn locos have a belt. The question is: how does this year's release get power to the wheels?

I too am intrigued to find out, although I don't like the new colour scheme.

I suppose that in theory they could have something like a layshaft between the two axles driving through bevel gears, but this might be over-engineering the problem and potentially even more temperamental than the drive belt. I can't see how they could possibly get both axles directly driven from the motor without a complete redesign of everything below footplate level, so I too will be very interested to see what they have actually done - and whether the new mechanism can be retrofitted under the old design loco bodies...... ?

I have the LGB Service Sheet for the 21140 Loco one axle powered by the worm from the motor and and the two axle's are joined by the drive belt.

again as stated, the NEW 2013 catalog states that the mechansim on these little locos has been re-designed from the old

i have no question about how the old ones work, i own 7 of them and have serviced them

i too was wondering the NEW mechanism
i too thught about a layshaft or possibly even. a metal drive belt, or perish the thought, a bunch of interconnected gears alongside the motor block -with a transfer pinion or the like to the 'free axel"
-i remember these types of workings from really old HO and n scale locos from italy-usually junk that jammed

perhaps something that wont be prone to belt slop under heavier loads
ideally, if they extended, somehow the motor shaft to have both axels worm driven, that would spread the load on the gears-and might be pretty straightforward

anyway, no one yet has one i take it?

I don't think it's due to be released for some time - so unless someone gets some "insider info" from Marklin themselves, I don't think we're going to be able to answer this one till it actually hits the shelves.....

ah then...patience
thanks for that
