im really fond of these small locos, and own more than a few by LGB
and, from experience and conversations with the old LGBOA repair guys, the rule is to never overload these locos, as the single worm drive gear will wear out, so i treat them ore than a bit gingerly when running these locos, especially the massively over-weighted diesel versions, which allow for little slip due to weight
In reading the new 2013 catalog, they make note of a re-worked drive train with both axels powered.
Now, if you were to ask me, i would think, technically speaking, the old version had both axels powered, even if only one by worm and the other by the drive belt
if anyone has or KNOWS the new arrangment of power, id really like to know, as i would pay for a more robust version of these locos.
