I wonder if anybody can help? I'm trying to find a pic (or link to) of a 12" to 1ft, split tank type 0-4-0 loco in service or ex shop - what might have been the prototype for Bachmann one.

Thank you (in anticipation).

Not seen one exactly like it but the Weyerhauser lumber co had several big articulated tanks with split saddletanks
Yeah, the Bachmann mallet (although based on a design never actually built IIRC) looks similar to those.

Must admit I've not managed to track down anything resembling the Li'l Big Hauler tank loco so far.

Thanks Paul & Nick - so there might be a chance it got further than the drawing board?

Well, there's this:

(looking closely at the domes and tank shape from this angle suggests it is very similar, problem is most photos on the net seem to be from the front where the funnel and sandbox hides the tank shape)

although it's a bit bigger than the Bachmann version....

Thanks Steve - we're gradually getting nearer - I suppose Rule 8 might have to be invoked if I want it to look something like. Ian's (Cogges) solution was a good one but I just like the tanks.

And Paul - yes you're right about Bachmann's choices - the 45T being my favourite of their [strike]unconsidered[/strike] ill-considered approaches.
