Battery RC and two motors

Interesting, I don't really understand enough, but when I built my pack that uses parallel units I just thought I would "belt and braces" after getting advice. it certainly doesn't cost or make it run any different. I only use NiMh. Cheers, Ian

To try and get my head around this are the diodes connected to each +ve terminal then connected together to make the +ve lead?

If so how are the batteries charged are they separated from the diodes then reconnected after charging?

Because the way I understand how diodes work then if I put a voltage higher than the battery voltage on the cathode side of the diodes then they are reverse biased and no current will flow.

Whether the batteries are removable or not the diodes are wired in AFTER the plugs that connect to the battery packs.
The charger connection goes in between the battery packs and the diodes. Banded ends of diodes are joined together. (-) of battery packs are common.

Thanks Tony,

So I have to charge the packs separately ie a charge connection attached to each diode non banded end?

Somewhere buried in my website is a diagram of how to wire parallel packs. I will try and find it later today.

Found it.

The charge jacks can be mounted anywhere.
If one or both are mounted at the end of loco they can act as ports for plugging in auxiliary batteries carried in a trail car.

Further to the battery in parallel discussion I went to the battery facility at work (they maintain and repair aircraft batteries both sealed lead acid and NiCd) and asked them about charging batteries in parallel and they advised me to use a bridge network.
A search of the net turned up an old article about bridge networks for parallel battery connections, I have attached a copy for use by anyone interested.
I`ll wire my loco batteries this way and give it a go.

D3 & D4 do what I said earlier. They prevent back feeding from one pack to another.
That circuit overcomes having to charge the battery packs separately.
