Bridges on the EG&SNNR

For those of you who have watched the growth of the EG&SNNR (Ever Growing and Still No Name Railway) will know that apart from the creation of a number of mountains, a similar number of bridges have been built to get the trains up, down and over the mountains.

The first bridge built was Big Bridge, a Pola product. This was the first bridge I stuck together and, I think, is the most impressive of all the bridges on the EG&SNNR. Only problem is that the local wildlife have adopted the bridge as part of one of their hiking trails and demolished most of the railways. Don't think we have any meercats here, though:rolf:

Next bridge encountered is Grey Bridge which is normally hidden from view in the bushes and therefore not usually seen or photographed:

Just round the bend from Grey Bridge is Stone Lantern Bridge constructed of super-duper expensive marine plywood (had to buy the whole sheet at just under £100!!). The bridge is rather basic and probably needs some handrails to make it look a bridge.....

On the other side of the garden is Black Bridge, a metal bridge made-to-order by Bridge That Gap, a small company sadly no longer trading:

Onto New Mountain and the site of what will be Waterfall Bridge. Not sure what this will look like apart from the waterfall being behind the bridge, dropping into a short river under the bridge and then down into a pond in front of the bridge. Hope to make it over to Sandwich next week to visit what I'm told is a good water feature outfit to see if they've got what I want:

Last major bridge on the line, and that most recently completed, is the Blue Bridge. This is another Pola product but, unlike the Big Bridge, is mainly screwed together:

Last pic is a helicopter view showing some of the bridges to give you some idea where the bridges are in relation to each other:

.......and, before anyone asks, there is no documented track plan. The railway just sort of grew, no written plans, just some ideas and boxes of straight and different radii Aristocraft track. Simples:bigsmile::rolf::thumbup:

WOW!!! What an astounding railway, I really like that. :D

Looking very good Keith. Imaginative use of track. You just need the catenary now.
How lucky you are that you have that space

This is one of the best railways i have had the privilege to visit and run trains on.
Top railway built by a top bloke:thumbup:

we likes bridges we do!!:thumbup::thumbup:

A wonderful railway Keith.
You're a man after my own heart..... what would we do without several house bricks!

Magic

Neat and organised. Looks great.

Just realised that over a month has passed since the above pictures were posted - time flies when you've got too many things to do:bigsmile::bigsmile:.

First of all, many thanks guys for all the encouraging comments posted above. It's been a long drag to get where I've got to but I think it's been worth it. Just looking forward to seeing trains running on the EG&SNNR sometime next year:thumbup:.

This week I've been busy "facing" the mountain and embankment leading of the Blue Bridge using broken paving slabs. Previously I've used recycled neighbour's concrete driveways but as there are already loads of bulbs planted in front of the embankment decided this time to use broken paving stones. Once the cement has dried out think it should look ok:

Luckily I've got a reasonable supply of broken paving stones so should be enough to do what I want to do:

Have also started on the water feature. Got a couple of end-of-range reduced price waterfalls from a local water features shop and now have to dig out the space for the pond into which the waterfalls will drain:

The track will pass between the two waterfalls - latest idea is a tunnel between the waterfalls but, at this point in time, it's only an idea:rolf::bigsmile::rolf:

Where the waterfall bridge is going you could do with a small copy of mine, Keith

WOW love the last pic Keith taken from the helicopter you have done alot of work this summer looks Fantastic

Superb. Puts me in mind of the 'Southern Cross' railway of Nick Trudgian. Oh how I'd love to run my steam cale there!!

Wonderful railway, Keith - very inspiring. You'll have a HUGE smile on your face when you're running trains.

Phil,
Having read your thread and seen the fantastic result I think your suggestion of a small copy of your bridge could be a workable solution:thumbup:. Looking at the worksite:

there would need to be two small arches on the curved approach with a larger arch on the 600mm straight over the waterway.

Think I will get the waterfalls, the stream under what will be the middle arch and the lower pond in place and then think about do the concreting for the bridge.

Must reread your thread to see how you did your bridge :rolleyes: Thanks for the suggestion:thumbup:

Keith

Pity you don't live a tad closer to us love to be able to help.
