Can you tell the age of a LGB Loco?

Hi ,

I have just purchased an LGB loco 0-4-0 No 3 for just over £50 on Ebay. The condition is good apart from a missing buffer and one coupling hook. The loco really goes well and it has shoes for the power.

Underneath the loco there is a number 20211. Also there is an inspection sticker "OK 00 10 70" Does this mean that the loco was manufactured in 1970 which would make it 40 years old or am I misinterpreting this info?

Kind regards,

Dave

I think it's a 2000 loco? The 5 figure number suggests it is a later model as earlier LGB items had a 4 figure part number....

yep its a 2000 loco
on the gold stickers under most locos (and rolling stock ;) ) the first and last number relate to the year

The "Stainz Type" #3 normally came in a more basic starter set. If I remember rightly they sold for about £80. £40 less than a normal set.

If we did that to you, how old would you be?

The 'day' always seems to be the first of the month

I guess one months worth of stickers per print run?

Interestingly, the locomotive 20211 doesn't appear in the 2000 LGB catalogue. Nor the 2001 and 2002 catalogues. As I suspected it is from one of the LGB special sets.

Your right Casey. No 3 was from a budget set - the loco is without smoke and sound.

Ah but if it was Yorkshire it wouldn't go all the way through, no point spending extra if you can't see it..................................

I believe the No3 Stainz came in the 30th Anniv set with four bolster trucks carrying some rails.
The loco was a simplified version - no smoke/sound etc.
I bought my set in 1999 (I think!).
