Anyone know when the No 1 Stainz was issued in the Xmas set, I have just aquired a set with a red no1 for my step son for Xmas, It's a quite late d box chassis, with metal Valve gear, philips screws on the chassis and cab, red cab, silver boiler, black chassis

In the 21540 Christmas set was a red No 1 Stainz. It is recorded that this was the first 4 axle loco with a new motor block. It was issued in 1991 in US.
I bought a spare No 1 body to go on an old Stainz. I had quite a job as I didn't appreciate it was designed for a modern Stainz
 
This one came from the states, as all the Xmas stainz, i've seen here are either a red cab no4 or a blue cab no2

Was this ever issued in the uk?
 
As far as I know non of the Christmas sets were ever sold in the UK. It's only in the last 10 years or so that they have been sold outside the US. If you watch ebay the only second hand ones come from the US.

Maybe I should have stocked up years ago when it was cheaper to import from over the pond. I have just been quoted $75 postage on an ebay coach (plus import taxes). I assume this is by personal jet.

The best I could do was re-body a couple of old ones.

Just noticed my red one is a number 4
 
I got my no4 red and no2 blue from ebay germany, they do pop up on there from time to time, but i've never seen the no1 I Have before
 
I've got one of those! bought the set when it came out I believe this was the 1st year of the Crimble set
