While "enjoying" the ice skating with SWMBO my mind strayed to listing my stock. I came up with some statistics and wonder how this compares with others. What this proves is that I probably don't have much brand loyalty. My line is placed in North American sometime in the last 40 years. My locos are -
USAT - 46%
Aristo - 33%
Bachmann - 13%
Others - 8%
My rolling stock -
USAT - 34%
Aristo 8%
Bachmann - 28%
Others 15%
scratch bult or heavily bashed - 15%
So quite a good mixture.
One thing which is well wrong compared to a real railway - I only have 2.65 items of rolling stock per loco.

It might be interesting to see how others have built up their stock

That's an easy one. Mine is (at present) all one make, Accucraft, as I picked the Welshpool as a starter, and just got a Countess and one of everything else to start with, and increased from there. My stock to loco ratio is much higher as I only have two locos.

Doesn't mean I have any 'brand loyalty' though, if I spot something else I like I wont hesitate, except perhaps to count the contents of my wallet.

Out of 25 locos:
LGB - 24%
Bachmann - 20%
Aristo - 28%
Playmobil - 16%
Others (HLW, Kalamazoo, Accucraft) - 12%

<edit> forgot about a couple of Toytrain Porters and a Keystone / Buddy L 2-6-2 </edit>

Wouldn't know about stock without going through it all, but predominantly Bachmann and Aristo, with a smattering of LGB, Playmobil and HLW. Like you Chris, I seem to have way too many locos for the amount of stock!!

Surprisingly, even though my focus is definitely American I don't own any USAT locos (yet - just been embarrased at work this morning with a gathering to mark 20 years: a nice little monetary giftie that may well transform into another loco!)

Seems i am an LGB loyilist (dont know why it just has turned out that way)

Of the 21 locos all but three come from the LGB stable
the Thomas the Tank ones are lionel and bachmann
5 starter set coaches
3 hong kong bong ones
and about 60 +2 freight cars

But i too appear to be loco heavy on the line, must buy more stock to make up longer trains:bigsmile:

Track comes from various makers though:thumbup:

hi all 98% lgb + 1 piko +1 bachmann this only came about as i like rhb regards Dave

Locos: out of 34* on the roster, almost all are LGB, with just one Piko (a V60), one Lilliput/Bachmann (a V3) and two Hartland (a Mack and a Sparky). All are either chipped or awaiting conversion, ditto with sound. Oh, and there is one Playmobil in there - the track maintenance vehicle, awaiting chipping and conversion to something a little less toylike.

Rolling stock: no clue how many pieces, but again mostly LGB, with a very few Hartland short cars and a dozen bits of "Naughty Newquida". One USAT flat car with 3 x diesel engine load. Several of the LGB wagons (eg: 4 cattle cars) are from the Toytrain range.

Track is an eclectic mix of mainly LGB and Aristo with a little Trainline45 and a few bits of Piko. Control by Massoth.

I try to stick mostly to European stock (which is the main reason most of my stuff is LGB), though Rules Eight and Nine, er, "rule", so to speak.

Jon.

* Ye Gods, how on Earth did I end up with that many.......? :bleh:

Out of 5 locos :rolf:
50% LGB
50% Aristocraft
Rollingstock
75% LGB
24% Aristocraft
1% Bachmann

Well i didn't think anybody would notice :rolf:

Whilst the majority of my locos and stock are LGB I have either owned them for some time or have bought them second hand.
Locos
5 - LGB - 1 bought new, rest 2nd hand)
1 - Piko - Bought new
1 Bachmann - Percy bought new

Coaches
5 - LGB (2 bought new, rest 2nd hand)

Wagons
8 - LGB (5 bought new, rest 2nd hand)
2 - Bachmann - Troublesome trucks bought new

Well all my stock is LGB and on the loco front I have:

Stainz, Otto, Porter,O&K Feldbahn and U class LGB
NQD loco and it still works fine!

All track and control LGB

Locos
LGB 90%
Piko 10%
Rolling Stock
LGB 91%
Backman 9%
Stock to Loco ratio, about 3.5:1
Power LGB/Massoth

lgb 95%
aster 1%
usatrains motor blocks 3%
piko 1%
rolling stock..lgb 100%
massoth power

locos
98% LGB
1 LGB/aster
1 bachman shay-now with new power trucks (at my own cost, shouldve been replaced by the company) a great looker and runner
1 roundhouse
had a bachman lyn-which i worked a bit-have to say it ran tolerably well and looked great

rolling stock
99% LGB
5 bachman wood ore cars-log caboose-all run well with new metal wheels and attention to couplers and paint
1 hartland log caboose-diminutive, sturdy, plain and toyish

had an accucraft plymouth switcher and got rid of it-a fine model,
-but difficult to insert an engineer-it required complete dis-assmebly, and just not the same look as my other fleet-and a pain regarding adapting couplers-

Mostly Bachmann locos and rolling stock actually.
I can't seem to recall all my locos... need to get out of house renovation soon I think...
2 Annies
2-3 Big haulers for conversion projects
1 Mining Mogul
1 "Buddy L"
1 Marklin BR55 (0-8-0)
1 Marklin "Rössle" 0-6-0
1 Aristocraft Mike
1 Hartland Mack

I will ultimately go completely 1/32, so the other scales will be rebuilt with smaller cabs. The Mike should make a good 1/32 Berkshire.

As for rolling stock it's about the same mix.
10 Bachmann Gons for the Mike, 4 flats, a bunch of Hartland Mini wagons, 2 NQD coaches, 10 NQD tankers, 4 Proinor.no G2/G3, 3 Märklin gons and 3 four wheel coaches. +++
All in all a schizophrenic mix of scales and brands

This has been an interesting exercise in remembering how and where I acquired my line's stock. Here goes:

Locos - 12, all LGB; 5 bought new, 7 s/h
Railbus - 1 Piko, bought new

Coaches - 11, all LGB; 6 bought new, 5 s/h. All rewheeeled with LGB metal wheels.
Wagons - 29, all LGB; 22 bought new, 7 s/h. Majority rewheeled with Bachmann metal wheels, small number with LGB.

Track - outdoors 100% LGB; indoors 40% LGB; 60% Piko. LGB 75% new; 25% s/h. Piko all new.
Controls - LGB MTS core equipment (inc r/c); Massoth for 90% of DCC chips, point and reversing modules; remaining 10% LGB items. MTS core equipment mostly s/h. Massoth all bought new.

In summary, I started with LGB and have mostly stayed with it, but since about 2005 I've largely bought second-hand, except where important for a guarantee (e.g. for decoders) or the price was right (e.g. Piko and Bachmann items). I can't see that pattern changing.

I am not sure but i think i see a pattern forming:nerd:

We all have to many locos for the amount of wagons and coaches we own:rolf::rolf:

Heres my satistics
Locos 10 - 100% LGB
Coaches 15 - 100% LGB
Wagons 14 - 100% LGB
Track Lots - 100% LGB
Power LGB / Massoth Digital.

I prefer to think of it as too little stock for the number of locos.....
