Any tips on getting into this beastie??

Seems to have me beat!

I'm not sure if this helps, http://www.champex-linden.de/lgb_produktdatenbank_d-e/medien.nsf/medien/56B47D97FF9E3CC785256EE0006E5875/$FILE/22620-1.pdf
There doesn't seem to be a manual for that locomotive, but it 'lloks' similar to the one in this exploded diagram.
Try here, that link doesn't seem to work. I'm also having trouble accessing the LGB diagrams. http://www.champex-linden.de/lgb_produktdatenbank_d-e/produkt.nsf/bede3443927b513dc125691c0045fb87/6f2e61a7fc6bce27c1256ca7004a729a02ec.html?OpenDocument

I have seen that, and it explains why the front 'bonnet' will not just lift off.. - Wire handrails make it impossible to get the bonnet off.
It is looking like I have to take the top part of the engine off the lower chassis in one lump..
I am unable to get the cab loose, so there is not enough slack to try to unhook the back-end of the bonnet from the cab.

Right, one step forward..
By removing the rear steps, and air tanks, the cab lifts off. there is enough slack to unhook the cab and bonnet from each other, and the cab will slide backwards with the bonnet top handrails..
The bonnet will lift at the rear, but is held by the metal handrails. Despite using moderate force, these do not seem to pull out from the bonnet. I am almost there. Just not able to see a way to get the front of the bonnet off.

Sorted!
The handrails DO pull out of the top-front corners of the bonnet. - Though I needed to use a VERY large amount of force, and a flat bladed screwdriver (from above) to lever them out.

Then another problem..
A 55027 had been installed, and the switch removed from the loco.. This meant there was not any power to the 'snd' pins on the mainboard under the bonnet.. Had to work out which pins to connect together to make the 'snd' pins live. - The first two on the left if looking towards the front of the loco.

Now to see if there is a specific soundfile, or if the 'small diesel' will have to suffice.
