Electric Live Steam?

Sound suspiciously like Sean Bean who has most certainly been to middle earth, not to mention also tried to kill James Bond amongst other things. Best known over here for the Sharpe TV series set in the Napoleonic wars. He does a lot of VO work. Max

Yes, i recognized the voice, just couldnt recall the actor's name. I loved sharpe's rifles. Long time ago twas. As i recall, that was my introduction to Bean.

No relation to our departed US Stringbean, presumably?LOL

As for Yorkshire....well we all know about Yorkshiremen.....as a child, probably had to eat the FBP after being made to sleep inthe freezer......with 12 siblings, no blankets, etc.

I work with a proud Yorkshire man and another who is wont to quote the magnificent Pythons. I'm used to hearing the woes of harsh childhood upbringings......on a regular basis........in stereo :D:D:rolleyes: Max

Once upon a time there was a popular system for flying model aircraft called "Round the pole"! Perhaps an easier method for electrically raising steam, without using the track for the return. It's probably more effective in the UK with 230 volts & an electric
kettle element. Like a steam iron on wheels.

Failing that, there aren't any fire marshals evident in Portland, that I can see!

YAY!! Staver Locomotive - THE place to be in the PNW! Good to see Miss Grimes and Ryan made the trip, too.

You can't compress steam.

Yes you can.
In the first instance - steam in our boilers is in a compressed state. Being pedantic there may be a difference between expansion and pressure but without pressure you cant have expansion.
I agree that to re-compress saturated steam is difficult as water droplets will form but superheated steam can be re-compressed by a simple pumping device.

That joke is crumby.

Another example of a compressed steam loco, again at Speyer - I'm sure our American members will like the whitewalls:

In the mid 1970's there was a weekly series called 'The World of Model Trains' in 48 weekly parts. In a early issue the very first article was about an indoor layout featuring the Lynton & Barnstaple railway, and the article descrobe a Manning & Wardle loco that picked up current from the track and used it to boil water. I seem to recall that the throttle used a Tri-Ang loco motor.

Does anybody else remember this?

We run our G scale live steam at several indoor shows without any issues, both gas and alcohol fired. We do not run coal fired at shows as the smoke and fumes would not be welcome. Coal fired G scale steam is run indoors at the Diamondhead steam up and I suspect at Cabin Fever on the east coast. We have greater worries of an unsupervised child putting thier hand on a hot locomotive and getting burnt. But that goes back to proper attention to your engine while running on the main line. All of the events are indoors and one is in a shopping mall. Larger ride on scale trains might be an issue, yes, but not G scale in my experience in my part of the USA Mike the Aspie
