Emily's Secrets

My Emily arrived just before Christmas and I posted a review on this group. I claimed that the loco collected power from the four driving wheels. This was not the whole truth.

Emily as supplied only collected power from three wheels and it was necessary to open it up to get the fourth pick up strip working. It then ran well and was run a lot until the other day I noticed it was stuttering a little.

Dirty Wheels? No, as clean as could be, but the newness had worn off, as it tends to on many Bachmann models. I started examining it with a view to adding some extra pick ups, and made two discoveries:

Firstly, it no longer collected from three wheels or four, but five! One of the rear bogie wheels was collecting too and after opening to bottom of the loco and looking at the copper contact strip for the sixth wheel, it was found to still be shiny and clean, never having been in touch with the bearing. This was fixed and the loco was reassembled, running smoothly once again, but now collecting from six wheels!

Secondly, I found this underneath the bolier back end -

Is that a mounting point for a speaker? Was a super Emily with sound planned?

Best wishes,
James
