I was wondering about one day adding a plug underneath to allow hook up to battery power if it ever visited a line without track power... I figured the drag from the pickups wouldn't be too bad?

Top tips on brake hose - I think a regular electric guitar string is far too fine for G, but a bass string might be ok. I'll look into the lead wire - I've some fine copper wire that is very easy to bend as well, but I think it's TOO fine for this job. I know on the continent you can get LGB ones - ten for about a fiver - but I can't find anyone in the UK selling any of these and the postage makes them a bit too expensive.

I haven't used this supplier, it's just what came up on the search, so I have no idea what they're like, but the product is the same brand (Plus Model) as I used to buy locally.

You get quite a bit in a pack - it's not a continuous roll, you get several dozen strands each about a foot long per pack. It's not expensive, so probably worth getting half a dozen different thicknesses in one order (or just one of everything) and that should last you for ages. I've found loads of uses for it, and can think of lots more - it can be used for things like scale "string" to tie up bundles or packages, tie back cab or coach curtains etc - the very fine stuff is so flexible that it can actually be knotted if you are very careful!

Well it's in bits and orange...
I'll share the work step by step on here when she's finished, in the meantime I keep the blog updated as milestones are met. Tonight I'm hoping to get the chassis work complete.
Tomorrow will be spraying the roof and applying gloss varnish to the cab sides - then saturday morning applying the transfers and satin varnish all over saturday night. Should be back together on Sunday for final finishing :)

I wondered about that - but I reckon they'll not be crisp enough when you've got an injection moulded highly detailed body to start from - and the grabs and door handles I've used a quite fine. I might ask a friend to turn some on his lathe :) - I can always fit them to the roof later (which by the way is going to be a darkish mid grey - it's a tin of DB Schenker grey paint I've used on one of my 4mm models - it sets off the orange nicely without being as dark as a black roof :))

Cambrian make some very useful injection moulded bits including horns.
16mm scale but suitable for G - Part No. NA24 - £1.10 for two different sizes.

BTW - looks smart; wasn't sure about the orange but it's OK :thumbup:

Thanks chaps - hehe saw that horn on the wife's mini thread!
I'm pleased with the orange - looks crisp but dull, not too 'in your face' and almost aged as well? Kind of fresh rust colour? It was chosen to contrast nicely with the grey wagons I have, but also inspired a little by the RhB tractor things - after I saw photos of the LGB ones on Klein Arosa in the Feb '11 Continental Modeller.

Thought I couldn't say that without a pic...
I'll varnish tonight or tomorrow morning - so tomorrow evening will start to re-assemble with luck!

Finished - for now - sealed with satin varnish. I'll get some photos outside next time I'm over in Chester with the rest of the stock.

Paul of course I'm tempted - but that can wait!! I want to get things all to a consistent standard before I go further. I've got my daughters coach and open wagon to paint next, she's picking the colours, and then hopefully by then I'll have sold some OO stuff to pay for more LGB coaches for me!
