G’day from Cairns, Australia

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to introduce myself. My names Doc and I live in tropical Far North Queensland. I’ve been an LGB enthusiast ever since I was a small child. I can remember my father getting an LGB set to got around the Christmas tree when I was a young lad of five or six… back in 1973/74. I received my own starter set when I was 13 and slowly accumulated wagons and locomotives, mostly sent to me by my grandmother in Germany, for my birthday and at Christmas time.

When I emigrated to Australia 25 years ago, all of my trains went into the attic at my mum’s house, where they are to this day. I have built up a small collection here in Oz, consisting of three Stainz locomotives of various vintages and a DR tank locomotive (99-6001). With limited space, these are all allocated to yearly service around the Christmas tree. A small railway in the garden is being planned, but for now I’ll just enjoy the Christmas vibes.

One thing I am doing is looking at adapting my two analog Stainz locomotives to digital and also upgrading my original transformer to a DCC model as well.

Thanks for reading all of this and have a great day!

Cheers,
Doc

Greetings doc, from NW Tas. Shame you don't have room for a railway now , but at least you get Christmas trains running. There are some really good smaller setups on display in the forums to look at.

Welcome Doc. There's nothing wrong with small set ups, especially when starting out. Hopefully you'll get all the advice you need, and I wonder what the chances are you're close to another forum member? (Warning, the humour can be a bit wanting!)

Welcome Doc from Perth, WA. I love Cairns. Spent a few days there recently and went on the Kuranda train. We were on the Spirit of Queensland overnight train to Brisbane which was affected by that big explosion just north of Brisbane!

Welcome from Springwood, NSW.
Lots of friendly and knowledgeable people from all over the world here!
Cheers,
Ian

Welcome Doc.

Small is often beautiful....

Ho Ho Ho Christmas greetings from a teeny tiny land. Good to see you and even better to have started with pictures - we are fond of photos here.

Hi Gizzmo,
Thanks for the info about the small setups! I’ll have a look and hopefully get inspired. The biggest holdup is that we are currently renting quite a small place, but we’re hoping to be in our own space come winter… fingers crossed!

Hi Paul,
It’d be good if there were at least another member close by as I’m always up for a coffee and a chat.

G’day Geoff,
It sounds like you made the rounds and just so you know, we don’t provide fireworks for just anyone… VIPs only!

Gudde Moien!
Teeny tiny lands are often the best places! And early Christmas greetings to you as well. I think it important that when you meet someone new, that they can get an idea who you are… and in this context, what better way than with Lokomotive photos!
