G Scale engine and tender purchase

Does that set include an exploding box car like the old Triang set had? That was great fun
Indeed it was - nearly as much fun as running the Dockyard Shunter at full tilt towards an R1 at the back of the layout - and if I remember rightly LGB still make one. Yep, 94208.

Did I say you didn't? Just making an observation that they can be found.
Probably a lot higher chance over on your side of the pond - In large scale, there's far more LGB than anything else over here. When people bought Aristo, USAT etc, it's because they wanted it, and kept it, generally speaking :rock:

I'm thinking now that it might be easier to just sell the two engines and the random tender and start over with a newer 'complete ' setup. I have about $350 invested.

I picked up a tender for the C-16 at a recent auction, but I'm afraid shipping it to the UK might be expensive. Send me a message if you want me to find out.

I'm in Pennsylvania, if you have a tender for my C-16 I'm interested. Someone else helped me find a tender for the BuddyL and I'm awaiting delivery on that one. I can take a picture of the wiring harness if that helps.
Thank you,
Tim

That would be a smart move. When I decided to get into G scale, more than thirty years ago, I bought an Aristocraft starter set. A few months later a Union Pacific set of FAs was added to my roster. About a year later I moved from an indoor layout and started a garden railway. To my dismay, the Aristocraft equipment was less than stellar running outdoors. After some thought I contacted a local small LGB dealer. This gentleman was very helpful and I wound up purchasing an LGB Mogul.

From that point on I was sold on LGB only. Over the years I have purchased other brands, like a Hartland Mack and most recently a Piko battery powered 25 ton loco. They too are good runners.

I dabbled in USA Trains but found that the axle splitting was an on going issue in their locomotives. If you do decide on a USA Trains locomotive, contact USA Trains and ask to purchase drive wheel/axle assemblies without the traction tires. It's better to have some slippage and run shorter trains than it is to experience split drive axles.

Tim - I sent you a message ("conversation".) I have a brand-new, unused C-16 tender. Assuming yours is an early C-16, it will look fine, except for having an E.B.T. name on the side! (Easily removed or painted over.)

Ah - not brand-new. Someone put a Kadee coupler on the back.

Tim sent me a pic of the back of his cab, and his C16 is one of the newer ones, with a pnp socket in the tender. That big connector carries wheel pickups to the tender and carries power back to the motor. As far as I recall, it won't run without something plugged in or a rewire.

My tender is an old style, with just the 2 wires from the tender wheel pickups. We can make it work, but it would be easier if we know how the big plug is wired. Anyone have or know a source for a diagram?

Thank you everyone for your help with my 'engine purchase' dilemma. I now have a tender for the Buddy L and it runs. I'm working on the C-16 to find a tender with an 8 pin harness.
The other tender that came with the 'lot of items' is another story and I'll make a new post for that. But thanks again for being nice to this old but rookie G scaler.
