GM Aerotrain

Almost finished with the tail end coach...they seem to be set up for single axel. Every time I come across this and they rotate, the wheels get all goofy and they derail. I am worried though that fixed axels may have issues turning because of the car length, or am I way off!

I was with you, on a missing traction tyre, then I saw it was not like that all the way round.

Yep, the single axles could well be an issue - however, in a fixed rake like this it should be possible to use Playmobil or LGB swivelling axles - the tension should keep them in line.

Alternatively, how about making the coupler between each pair of cars as a fixed bogie with articulated carriages?

I was thinking of printing an axel swivel with coupler bar that has a small bracket on the back to hold a piece of music wire. The mold a receiver into the frame when I design it. This should keep the wheels straight but allow them to pivot while negotiating curves...
 
Playing on the test track while my print finished...seriously thinking about scanning this thing in and making a g scale one lol.

The extra weight of metal wheels might also help - you'll probably have to experiment, as you're in pioneering territory.
 
Took a break from designing a small tender to stuff the electronics from the LGB sound boxcar into! Started the first of two plates consisting of the front and rear of the coaches for the Aerotrain. After that it's one plate of two mid sections and I'll have a locomotive, two coaches and an observation car bringing up the rear!

Well, I learned today to check measurements lol...off topic but funny, kind of.

I bought this thinking oh sweet, I can power a nice g scale sterling single with this bad boy...okay, maybe an HO hunslet quarry or something lol...

I have something very similar powering 16mm Loco Remote locos.

Nice gearbox :inlove:

EDIT - Looked again and it also has a helical drive. ABC gears say that these are 30% more efficient than a worm drive, hence you can get more bang for your buck with a smaller motor.
 
It does look beefy. I had hoped it would be big enough to just drop some slater 3"+ wheels on it and call it a day...far to tiny for that but I'll find a way, oh yes, I will lol. I am having a devil of a time finding just metal wheel hoops to shoe horn spokes into...somebody has to make some, I saw a video of somebody using some on custom resin hubs...
