Hearing the new KISS Croc.....

Dropped into GRS yesterday while on the way to pick up the Memsahib from some friends in Oxford, and while I was there Matt insisted on demonstrating the recently-arrived KISS RhB Croc for me and another customer. Now there is no way that I'd be in the market for one (it's around three grand, plus I don't "do" overhead electric locos, or Swiss stuff in general really) but Matt said they'd had three in and two had sold, leaving just the one remaining example in the shop. Anyway, the reason I'm mentioning it here is that as well as looking beautiful, the sound system in it is one of the most amazing I've ever heard in a G scale loco. I've often thought that sound chips in electric-prototype locos were a little bit redundant - after all, the real things make rather similar noises to the drive motors in the models anyway - but this one proved me very wrong; every pop, click, clank, buzz and whirr is there, crystal-clear and quite stunning.

If you happen to pop in there while they still have one, ask for a demo - it's impressive! :o

Hi Jon Paul of P & S Models put a Massoth chip in my new Marklin Kroc and it too was great a lot better than the LGB, I now only do RhB stock so I have 3 sound locos and might put sound in the other one Les

Hi Les,

Though I'm a big fan of Massoth, and use their stuff a lot, I have to say that whatever was in the KISS croc was head and shoulders above anything I've heard from them - or any other make! I don't know what brand of decoder/sound it has in it - might be ESU, might be Zimo, might be something else entirely - but whatever it is, it's quite spectacular in its clarity and realism.

Another possibility is a non-sound decoder and a Phoenix P8. Phoenix sound units are my first choice whenever cost isn't an issue. Their P8 can output 6W and Phoenix have a specific RhB Kroc sound file.

And very good it is too Neil.

KISS website says its ESU:
