Once again my memory has failed me and I need your help: A while back I remember seeing/reading that someone had a metal railing kit for the LGB G3/4 Heidi, to replace the soft stock railings. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Keith
Cant help with the brass work but I have straightened my plastic railings with boiling water. Just put a piece of cardboard under the railing to deflect most of the water from the bodywork and pour the boiling water liberally on to the railing. They ping straight immediately and stay that way until some clumsy hand (usually mine!) grabs them again.
Interesting, I didn't know anyone did a commercial set.
My second-hand Heidi had brass railings added by the previous owner, and a jolly spiffing job he made of it too - he also did the small rails on the smokebox sides AND the cab door rails at the same time as the main tank rails:
no a slightly bigger holes required.. not too diffiecult, but take your time, thre eyelet bolts are surpllyed to long, need cutting down a bit, and should thread the plastic nicely..
drilble of superglue,. fixes themperminatly in place
Guess they use steel wire rather than brass for strength - I must admit with the all-brass ones on mine I do have to be careful how I pick the loco up, as the brass rails would bend if squeezed. The downside of steel is that they may need a coat of something to avoid any rust appearing.
A general question about the bendy plastic handrails - I know that the ones on Heidi were notoriously bad, does anyone have a Thusis as a comparison? Are they the same as Heidi's, or had LGB learned the lesson and fitted better ones to the Thusis loco batch? Just wondering, because most of the pictures I've seen of Thusis models look like their rails are a lot less wiggly than on most Heidis!
Folkstonekieth (a member here) brought his Thusis here and the rails did look a lot straighter. Not sure if it was a different plastic. The model was new though.
