Hornby 00 P2

I thought the chassis was the same and they were using the cheaper motor only in the railroad version, that's what they did with the Javelin sets.
When they came out I emailled Hornby and they said Railroad versions had cheaper 3 pole motors, then simpler detailing and paint as that reduced labour costs.

Hornby Railroad tend to be loco driven these days. Possibly, the smaller ex-Airfix locomotives may still have a Ringfield in the tender. I would think the loco would have a three-pole flywheel motor.

As the 'Tornado' was tooled as a 'Railroad' model, then one assumes similat specs for the 2-8-2. A more expensive '02' will simply mean better paint lined finish and possibly etched nameplates. The drive will be the same as the lesser priced 'Railroad' model. Let us hope the cab on this one is glazed.

I read last week in the Telegraph, that Hornby are going to bring their manufacturing back from China;- it is now too expensive.
Alyn, I'm not sure about that, I think it is only the range of Humbrol Paints that is being repatriated.

Read Martins comments further down, about production.
