HYPERTUFFA -> for cliff & Quarry faces

I have made extensive use of hypertuffa in the building of the scenery of my garden railway, & am frequently asked how I make it.

I am sure I have answered this before, but probably in the middle of another thread, which a search does not show up.

So I will put together a short one under a specific heading

I use a basic mortar mix, which is

1 part cement to to 3 parts other

in brickie mortar the "other" is sand

in my mix the "3" is made up of 1 part sand 2 parts peat

but some use peat & perlite etc etc

and some dont like to use peat at all

I have tried substituting compost for the peat but it was not very successful

So my effective mix is
1 part cement
1 part sand
2 parts peat

all sieved very small

Thanks for sharing that Don.

Thanks for this little tip Don, have been wondering about lining the inside of my return loop with a 'mountain' spring and pool in the middle, your Hypertuffa might give just the right surface around it.
