Where was it Garry? When I started the thread it was because i had seen a picture of the beast

It was running on the Sheffield Model Engineeing track on Abbeydale Road during one of their regular open days. if you put SMEE into your search engine you should be able to find their website.
Cheers Garry.

I have NEVER understood the attraction, I have always felt if you have the room for something this big you have the room for a REAL HONEST ESTATE RAILWAY.

Why go 7-1/2" gauge when you could go to full 12" 15" 18" 20" or even 24" or 600cm gauge REAL Feldbahn railroad with REAL Feldbahn rolling stock, not caricatures (and often not good ones) of full size engines.

Well thats the way I would go if I have the real estate for it.

But thats just me.

Certainly is.
The actual representation of the real 1:1 loco is pretty simpllistic I agree but the reason for me saying that i want one is not to do with the fact that it it looks exactly like the prototype (it obviously doesn't), it was in the same vein as me never having the room, but still wanting a sit on mower. It would be great driving it around the estate (if I had one). Some people just have no romance

But also would love one of these The K-36 that used to run at Dobwalls in Cornwall my dad was lucky to drive this loco when he went several years ago

Me too - my Mrs went to school with John Southern's sons, so when we used to visit Cornwall a drive around with a full train was usually on! I never got to drive the BigBoy though, just the K's. (I used to drive at a line in the northeast for years so am well experienced, before the H&S Elves throw a wobbly). Shame its all gone, it was a tremendous line.

I reckon its more likely to be 5 inch & 7 1/2inch. 3rd rail may well make it an interesting place to visit & watch however!

If you want the real world Mecca for that gauge then this is the one, they only have 13 MILES of track!!!

Yes, the US has some large "steam tracks" including a biggie one here, but the Sandy Ridge is run as a railroad, with orders and rules.

Another thing, being modeled as a narrow gauge railway, it uses steel rail and heavier wheels, the ride is the woods is impressive and smooth, unlike a lot of the smaller live steam stuff using smaller wheels and lighter aluminum rail, with the occasional fear of dumping over.

Whaaa? Not romanitic? you dont find this more romantic that that big toolbox on wheels??? ;)

Incidentally the photo that Beav opened up with shows Mick Savage driving. He built the loco as a prototype commission for a company in North Wales, so if you REALLY really want one, you can. I cant quite place the track but it's dual gauge 7 1/4"/5", so might be/probably is his home track at Sheffield.
