As I understand it, when the card is using motor voltage to regulate the chuffs, it compares the present voltage with a reference voltage from a few milliseconds previously. If the voltage is rising the volume is increased, if the voltage has been steady for ten seconds (or so), the volume decreases, if the voltage is dropping then it goes into coasting mode (ie the chuffs are muted). The sensitivity for coasting can be adjusted (five different settings). One setting disables coasting mode while the others presumably adjust the level of voltage difference required before coasting is triggered.
