I found these and they look quite good

Very tempted to wire one into my existing garden lighting.

Couple of things though.
Not sure how outdoor proof they might be?
Would prefer to try and build one myself using LEDs and a kit, (I cant make the lamp/glass).
(Very good thread on solar lighting and LEDs)

Does anyone know of a kit out there or similar products?

well ive got 15 of them sat in a drawer, awaiting the new platform to be made(next year)

Nice find. Looks like some interesting items at not too unreasonable prices.

Bought two of these.
Was thinking of wiring them in parallel to my garden lighting. Someone suggested speaker wire is OK for this sort of thing. Though I have some spare wire that came with the original lights.

I've got three of these lamps that have been out for about 18 months now, including the really bad snow of last Winter, and they're still as good as new. They come with small bulbs which just slide out if you want to replace with LEDs.

The one thing I must get round to doing is wiring them up.

conclusive proff that these lamps will last for ever, provied,
A< they stay in a drawer:bigsmile:
B^you dont wire them up:bigsmile:

Got the lamps, but they have a long threaded brass rod on the base. Im reluctant to cut it off, so I need some ides on how to mount them outside. Really nice lamps, sorry about fuzzy pics...dam phone.

Thought: Build a small plywood box, seal it and paint it to protect, drill a hole in the top, put the thread thru and tightened nut. Mount a choc block connector inside, drill hole in side for wire to exit with some sort of gasket. Seal remaining side, perhaps with screws to allow access. Bury the whole thing.

All ideas welcome.

Edit.

Thought of a better one: small length of plastic tube (hot water pipe), seal the ends with some sort of glue/sealant drill thru and pass thread/wire. Bury it and bring wires up to junction box. Only thought is the wire is fine stuff on the grain of wheat buld, might not be very weather resistant?

i think it depends on where/how your railways built, i liked the brass thread, as im planning on useing my lamps on the new platforms im going to build, next year, out off U.P.V.C softit bords(white stuff, behind plastic gutterings) im useing it, as its stable, uvc resistant, weather proof, and easy to cut/glue.. the lamps will be bolted to the bords, and wired in, leaveing a plug at the end.. simple conections, for easy maintansces

copper pipe in to the ground.. use the brass thread as the plug?

Came up with this plan.
Either a block of play or a piece of slate.
Plan on gluing/sealing the plastic tube to the slate, if I need to change the bulb will need to cut the sealant off.
Should I keep bottom end open?
